What is the VERY worst thing George W. Bush did as President? |
|
I thought I'd get your thoughts on this. Of course, there's so many things to choose from. Plus, maybe this question is a bit premature because there's almost a year to go. He's got a lot of opportunities to top himself.
Mine was when, during the Iraq war, he said "Bring Em' On". Goddammit, you don't dare the enemy to attack your own troops. If he was so gung ho about fighting the Iraqis, maybe he should have hauled his ugly ass to Iraq and picked up a gun himself.

|

If the latter, I think it's letting 9-11 happen.
If the former, it would be ignoring the Clinton administration's long report on terrorism that spelled out everything that needed to be done (go after Osama and attack the Taliban, beef up airport security, make cockpit doors sealed, etc.), which Shrub and Cheney ignored, and then, when they finally got around to doing their own after 9-11, came to the same conclusions as Clinton's people did about securing the country, Osama is a threat, etc.
That's criminally negligent, IMO.

I am just getting through Franken and Conason's books. Franken, in spite of his light "tone", has done an incredible job of tieing up a neat indictment of Bush's mishandling of terrorism from the day he took office until Sept. 10, 2001.
It's appalling and frightening.
If he win's re-election, he must be impeached for a dereliction of duty so egregious as to constitute high crimes and misdemeanors.

26. Invading Iraq was the worst, because it: |
|
has directly resulted in the deaths of nearly 500 American troops and thousands of innocent Iraqis...
has INCREASED the threat of terrorism...
has damaged America's relations with the rest of the world...
is adding tremendously to the federal deficit...
was based on lies, is a betrayal of trust, and desecrates the tragedy of 9/11...
and has deeply divided this country.
Bush has done many despicable things, buteverything associated with the invasion of Iraq is, IMHO, by far the worst.

As far as what I think the worst thing he has done is, I believe it is what he did today in giving our tax money to Churches and violating our Constitution in a big way. I hope someone, somewhere, who can do something about this sees this as treasonous.

actions and say that it's a three-way tie.
1. "Th'Axis Uvv Ee-vuhl!" Idiotic flummery. We were so close to having Iran as an ally again. If we need anything in the ME, it's allies. Israel is not so much an ally as a parasite, sucking the cream. The Chimp's contemptible grandstanding blew that right out the window. And North Korea? Too ill and cold and hungry to bother anyone? After that, I guess they thought, 'What the hell, may as well earn it.'
2. Mission Accomplished in that cockamamie flight suit on board the Abraham Lincoln. An insult to everyone who has ever served in a REAL war against a REAL enemy. Suck my Gulf War veteran dick, you swaggering blow-hard!
3. "Bring 'Em On". Yeah, sure he can taunt the Iraqi freedom fighters. It's not his ugly ass on the line. I called the White House and left a furious message with the sweet lady who answered the phone. Told her I wasn't angry with her, but her cowardly, brainless, spineless, ugly, worthless boss.

Edited on Fri Jan-16-04 01:01 AM by Bundbuster
was twisting America's 3rd-world AIDS funding into a policy of genocide. I was beyond outraged when he set rules to deny ALL HIV/AIDS aid to countries or agencies promoting family planning, birth control, or educating their citizens on condom use and safe sex. It is an extension of faith-based initiatives to the international level, AWOL prostituting himself to the religious reich. And insult to injury, he reneged on his State of the Union Address(read "bullshit") promise of $15 billion, quietly sleazing it down to about $5 billion.
History will show this petty, incredibly small and hypocritical subhuman as a virtual mass-murderer, just like Ronnie Raygun homophobically refusing to prioritize AIDS research as it grew into an uncontrolled epidemic.
I hurl excrement onto the cowering chimp and his entire bund of racist, elitist, manifest destiny corporate-whores.

Everytime you think "this is it!" and he can't get away with one more thing, that gets swept under the rug and he manages to top it a few days later. My greatest hope was the scandal "outing" Joe Wilson's wife. I thought for sure that someone would get to the bottom of this and it was prosecutable. Guess again. "Bring 'em on" was pretty bad, I agree, but launching an unprovoked attack on a third-world nation based on lies to the American people has to be about the worst in our history, I would think. And they impeached Bill Clinton.

49. Ruined our interntational reputation. |
|
We have great power to do good simply through the force of will we have as a nation. Many countries respect us and will follow our lead if we push for something strong enough. So, what has Bush done? Arrogantly called our Western European allies, some of the most powerful nations on earth, a useless mass known as "Old Europe." He's thumbed his nose at the U.N. with the invasion of Iraq and pulling out of numerous treaties on pollution and human rights. He makes belligerent statements toward any foreign leader who dares stand up to his policies and is probably complicit in a conspiracy to throw a democratically elected leader, Hugo Chavez, out of power. We are going to be harmed in innumerable ways by the goodwill the president has squandered. People will sanction us, will sign defensive pacts against us and will not include us in efforts to assist or rebuild suffering countries. As the rest of the world learns cooperation and unity, we will become an outcast, a third-world country full of oligarchs like Bush who consider anyone not American to be inferior. The most serious thing Bush has done is squander our international goodwill.

It truly burns me when I hear Bush* and ordinary Americans belittle our traditional allies. After 9/11, the world was united in sympathy with us. Today, we have squandered all that good will and have made more enemies than we can count. Iran was the only country in the region that took to the streets in sympathy with the Americans after 9/11, but they are part of the "axis of evil," while Saudi Arabia, whose countrymen perpetrated 9/11, are not. It boggles the mind.

|
Edited on Fri Jan-16-04 03:42 AM by fujiyama
Hmmm, in a time span of some three years, there are simply too many bad things to choose from...But here's a list...
-Stealing the election ('nuff said)
-Showing no interest in intelligence reports showing a major attack about to happen
-Obfuscating, covering up, and not cooperating with the 9/11 commision (what are you tryin to hide Chimpy?)
-Ignoring the war on terror to go after the boogeyman of Baghdad
-It was when at a "press conference" (the propaganda networks don't really ask any worthwhile questions), he stated "He tried to kill my dad". Wow, talk about unprofessional...and he's trying to get other countries on board to fight his personal vendetta?
-Having the EPA lie about the air quality around Ground Zero (God, seeing as how they could do this I can see why many believe in LIHOP)
-Exposing the name of a covert CIA analyst (the people in this administration are TRAITORS)
-Oh yeah, and let's not forget squandering the surplus on tax cuts to the very rich. But in all fairness, this many of us saw coming all along. This is simply part and parcel of the republican party. We knew his tax cuts would be disasterous.
