It's so damn cold in my apartment, I can hardly type any more
Edited on Thu Jan-15-04 12:51 PM by Rabrrrrrr
I'm leaving. No heat, no hot water in the taps for at least the last three hours (ever take a cold shower in a bathroom that's about 55 degrees?), I don't know what's going on, but there's snow on the ground, I haven't walked in it, want to be in it, and besides, and I'm freezing my ass off in here, I'm shivering in my own place with two pants and two shirts on, and I have writing to do so I have to go somewhere warm to do it. My cooking thermometer, the only thermometer I have, tells me it's 60, but that's also as low as it goes, and I know it's not that warm.

If it's not warm when I get back, I'm calling the landlord. This is insane. And it's been like this for days, heat-wise.

See you later!

1. Remember...
...if your landlord doesn't respond, call 311.

Good luck!

2. Aye - I don't want to do that, becuase he's actually pretty nice
and has always done well for me.

But this is insane.

I'm almost ready to go outside...a few more minutes of packing my stuff...

9. I don't understand either, but my building had the same problem today.
The heat was okay, but the water was a problem. It could have something to do with those tanks on our roofs.

6. Is your rent cheap or something?
I'm sorry, I've never lived in a big big city so I don't understand this. I've never not had heat or hot water in an apartment and I don't quite understand why it happens. Why wouldn't you call your landlord right away when you don't have hot water or heat?

11. It is cheap, but that's not the issue -
partly, it's becuase sometimes, the boilers just conk out and it takes a few hours to get them going again after the super notices (and he's often out during the day, so to me, there's no sense in calling right away).

I also havea really good landlord who's been very good to me with problems with some other tenants, so I don't want to just piss him off with more bitchin'. :-) Certanily I could - one nice thing about NYC is that it's really set up in favor of renters.

But if it keeps up for another day, I'm calling the landlord.

I'm home now and thankfully we have heat and hot water again. :-)

8. i sympathize!
i had no heat for 3.5 days, finally got partial heat on Sunday. it's still too cold but compared to those days of four layers and, like you, too cold to type... it is an improvement!

good luck
