I, The Wizard, post on a conservative website in an attempt to bridge the gap between progressives and conservatives. Usually I manage to hold my own, but after a couple of months now, it's becomes tougher to fight on my own.

I know the last 7 years have sucked, for all of us. We've all clawed, bit and scratched, while pulling our hair out. I think it would be fun to flood these guys with left wingers. Turn their forum into a progressive playground, with green energy, and soy products for all. How about not even interacting with them and just talk amongst yourselves.

I went to your link and ghosted over your battles with those cement headed idiots. You are indeed a brave man. You hold your own over there and I for one would not care to debate against you. You have my respect. In some ways I feel as you do, communication is key to growth. I only read through one GD thread there and that was as much as I could handle, there was no communication going on at all.

You make a good point about debating like minded folks as opposed to learning by debating with folks who do not share your views, I see that you chose to take the battle to the enemy...well sorta.

Perhaps this may help:

I have as one of my personal heroes a local man who happens to also be a devout Christian and a Republican precinct commander. I am NOT a Christian or a member of any other religion and I have NEVER voted for a Republican. Needless to say this person and I do not see eye to eye on many things but we DO communicate with each other and we cherish each others company. He is a local hero for what he has done FOR our community...he is elderly and will be missed by tens of thousands when he passes on. (That number is likely no exaggeration).

My step kid now lives with his real mother. She is another Republican precinct commander. They reside in California. He was more of an Independent than a Democrat but slowly he too has started sounding more and more Republican. He and I debate a great many issues from Global Warming, (he would fit in well on that forum you hang out in), to Immigration. He does not debate well and winds up frustrated but we love each other and that is our bottom line. We usually end our debates in laughter instead of anger.

Speaking of his Mother. He is worried about her because she has been accosted by "militant liberals", (his words not mine...I'll call a thug a thug, partisanship is not important there), who have gone to her booth. She says these incidents range from verbal abuse to ransacking her booth. She has even been spit on once!

What do all three individuals, The Hero, my Step-kid and his Mother have in common with me? They are ALL Americans doing exactly what they feel is right for our country. They are doing what little they can for America in the only way they can by exercising their Freedom of Speech. In the Mother's case she is donating her time publicly as well. (Those who accost her booth are no better than the thugs who gang up on you over in that conservative forum.) In my case I am doing the same that they are for the same reason. I respect them for it and they respect me even though we are diametrically opposed on what is best for America.

That is the common ground you may be able to communicate from. We are all Americans doing what we feel is right for our country! We are not monsters out to destroy our country nor do we support the terrorists. I am not sure you CAN communicate at all with thugs though...as a matter of fact I see it as a useless exercise and refuse to debate thugs here in the DU either... (I have one on ignore even though we have never spoken to each other...I did it because he is no better than the ass who spit on my step kid's mom...a THUG!)

I'll not go back there...I'll not go to an Aryan Nation site for pretty much the same reason. If you should find a site where respect is important...sorta like what we have here in the DU, (yes in spite of what some folks think, there is more to DU than flame wars), I might be coaxed to check it out further.

ps: 1 requirement though, make sure they have spell check first, I am embarrassed to say that I spell like a freeper in spite of 4 years of college. (It was a problem then as well)
