5. Just wait until you see how I labeled your flowers.
It started with "Morning Glory-Holes".

Then it got sort of weird.

7. I have planted an herb garden in my bay window
My dill is looking like it needs something, my chives are thriving, my fennel is looking good, my basil is great, my thyme is looking rather anemic.

This is my first attempt at herb gardening.

11. I had basil and oregano I somehow
managed not to kill inside. I just put them in bigger pots and moved them outside and plan to add to the collection.

Have you ever dried your own or do you just use them fresh?

I'm waiting another week to put in new annuals but the old stuff's all growing again. Centaurea Montana spread out over the winter and now it's blooming like purple fireworks :O

12. Those are pretty
I neglected my gardening for two years and the weeds choked out most of the perennials.

I do more vegetables than flowers, but put a lot of annuals in pots. We sadly lost the butterfly bush, which was quite popular with the butterflies in the neighborhood. Not sure what did that in.

35. Me too!
Just couldn't get out in the heat anymore.

But surprisingly, the drought didn't kill everything! I cleaned out my herb bed the other day, and I still have a healthy collection of oregano, rosemary, garlic and regular chives.

I have a huge thyme bed where I put hand-mosaicked garden stones, and after the honking rains the other night, the roses on my arbor are going completely nuts. They're GORGEOUS!

I have lots of work to do back there, but it's starting to heat up again. 5 minutes outside, and I'm toast, unfortunately. MS sucks.

14.  Tomatoes, peppers, beans, and carrots.
I don't have a lot of room, would like to plant more. It will be about 1 1/2 weeks or so before the peppers and tomatoes go in, still a chance of frost in these parts. As for flowers and ornamentals, I have all perennials and native plants. No worries.

18. Asiatic Lillies
Don't laugh, we're probably the only house for miles around that has asiatic lillies.

The secret?

You have to go out there, morning, noon and evening, and pick asiatic lilly beetles off the plants and crush them by hand.

No poison will do the trick, and nobody else bothers; too much trouble.

The reward?....

25. And here is another rarity: Violet Gordon
It is a fragrant azalea, named after her creator, Violet Gordon:

The smell from these blossoms is almost like jasmin. I am the guardian that has to catch the caterpillars that eat this beauty. If you look closely, you'll see one of the critters munching on a leaf on the bottom left side of the picture above.

And here is another picture of the plant from further away:

29. Wow! I was just thinking about that thread TODAY!
The one in which someone ranted about what to put on the card, how I'm supposed to write on it, et cetera?

Honestly, if I receive a Christmas card from some who isn't my parents, I'm thrilled. Whoever it was who posted that original thread got it wrong, at least for most of us.

Nice orchids, by the way.

The only time I've ever seen one was A) on vacation in Hawaii, and B) hiking in Arkansas. A beautiful plant.

31. The trick is to keep them guessing
Sometimes we send Christmas cards, which is fine.

Sometimes, we send New Years cards (With first night pictures of ice sculptures in Boston)

Sometimes, it is a 4th of July card, with pics of the fireworks taken from the bridges over the Charles River.

Sometimes, it is Valentines cards.

The whole point is to catch them, when they least expect it, and say...

I love you.

26. We need to clear out the garden.
Maybe this weekend when it's nice.

We plan on planting basil, thyme, oregano, roma tomatoes, and probably some kind of bean. We don't have a lot of room, so a few things go in pots or runners. I am very excited to see how our grape vine does this year. :bounce:

27. Good fortune with your vines
We have concord grapes, which gave a great crop two years ago, but last year was very disappointing.

My wife says it is an evey other year thing.

I hope so, because I love the grape jelly she makes from our vines.

28. Thank you.
Grape jelly sounds so good.

We just got ours last year, and it had about 3 teeny bunches on it. Hopefully, we will get a few more this year.

I'm also excited to see how our blueberry bush did over the winter. Blueberries...mmmmm. :9

30. Noelle's Pumpkin Patch -
a special garden I plant for my granddaughter so she has jack-o-lanterns from her grammie. She just turned two so she doesn't quite get it yet - but she will dig it when she gets older.
We have 2 large veggie gardens, perennials everywhere (artemisia is my favorite), a couple of herb gardens, and a dozen ornamental grasses that surround the pool that we are taking down this year. I plan to build a hut w/the leftover deck wood. With the nice rains we had the past few days everything doubled in size.

34. Snow peas, cilantro, lettuces, spinach...
Cukes (Asian variety for a lark) up as are pumpkins and squash. Burgundy okra (which is a beautiful plant) goes in this weekend. Beets are showing their tiny red stems from their niche in the garden. Rainbow Swiss Chard is joining the chorus of color.

More lettuces & spinach in successive plantings until it gets too hot, then again as summer ebbs, in hopes of a pleasant fall with a second harvest of greens

Tomatoes are seedlings here this time of year, but will go into the ground in a couple weeks of so.

Chamomile is up and there is more to plant.

The early-risers of the flower world are dancing center stage. The other flowers are just tiny specks of green or seeds just getting legs. Apple trees are teasing us with buds but the honeysuckle bushes are about to put out.

37. Just tomato plants this year, and hope for better results than last year.
Last summer it rained for 40 days and 40 nights after we planted them, and then it turned to drought and excessive heat. We ended up with tomatoes with split personalities.
