Duties: Serve as the founding director of the University of Illinois School of Music’s new center for the study and performance of world music. Responsible for the development, artistic direction, and administration of the Center’s programs including instruction, performances, research and outreach activities, and student recruitment. Oversee and administer the Center’s budget and fund-raising efforts, particularly writing grant proposals. Hire and supervise staff. Recruit guest artists and visiting faculty internationally for Center programs, performances, and instruction. Promote the Center internationally by initiating and fostering international collaborations. Serve as Curator of collection items; arrange displays and exhibits. Actively communicate, collaborate, and interact with UIUC faculty and staff, as well as with local and regional schools and cultural institutions. Teach music courses related to area of expertise.
Rank: Regular, full-time academic professional position with additional appointment as non-tenure-track Assistant Professor.
Salary: Salary based on qualifications and experience.
Qualifications: Master of Music degree required; doctorate or equivalent professional experience preferred. Background in ethnomusicology and associated scholarly activity, with broad knowledge of the world’s major musical traditions required. Substantial experience directing a staff and administering similar programs and demonstrated success in grant-writing and/or fund-raising required. Experience teaching college-level music courses preferred.

ILLINOIS SUMMER YOUTH MUSIC ISYM is a comprehensive and intensive program of music instruction for student musicians. It is held on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
For the past 57 years, Illinois Summer Youth Music has enrolled more than a thousand students annually. ISYM has as its objectives to develop musical skills and to improve the understanding and appreciation of music.
Our 19 different camps are designed to challenge musicians in varying degrees of musical skills and development. Faculty members for ISYM are carefully selected and include those who understand both the development process and the needs of young student musicians. 03/19/2007 08/16/2007 ASSISTANT PROFESSOR - JAZZ BASS
Duties: Teach graduate and undergraduate students in applied jazz bass as well as courses related to the theory and practice of jazz. Courses may include jazz composition/arranging, jazz improvisation, music technology, repertory, improvisational music ensembles, and rhythm section techniques. Develop/maintain a distinguished career in the jazz profession as a performer and/or scholar. Participate in student recruitment, auditions, advising, recital hearings, and in service to the University and the profession as appropriate for tenure-track faculty.
Rank: Assistant Professor, regular full-time, tenure-track position (pending budgetary approval).
Salary: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Qualifications: Master’s degree in music or equivalent professional experience required. Experience teaching college-level jazz-related courses is expected as well as demonstrated ability to interact effectively with students and faculty in related disciplines.

Duties: Assist the Specialist in Audio Services with engineering and duplicating recordings and designing and implementing sound reinforcement systems for School of Music concert productions. Produce, edit, master CD recordings; schedule recording sessions; archive and document recordings; invoice clients. Assist with allocating equipment for productions; inventory and maintain equipment.
Rank: Regular half-time academic professional position; salary commensurate with experience. If funding becomes available in the future, it is possible the position may be increased to full time.
Salary: To be determined.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required, preferred fields of audio engineering/ technology, electrical engineering, or music. Three years of professional experience in audio-related field required. Expertise in microphone selection and placement, loudspeaker and amplifier setup and operation, mixing console operation, use of ancillary equipment and digital audio workstation operation required. Ability to read music and knowledge of various musical styles and instruments required.
