Human Skull Found Boiling In Pot In Chicago Apartment But It's OK Say Police
<snip>

CHICAGO (AP) - Four human skulls were discovered in a Chicago man's apartment, one boiling in a pot of water, but authorities said charges aren't likely.

"It doesn't seem to be anything nefarious at this time," police Lt. Perry Nigro said. The 26-year-old owner of the skulls makes anatomical models for a living and appeared to be using them for medical purposes, Nigro said. "As weird as it is, it doesn't seem like anything is wrong," Nigro said.

Police searched the apartment after someone who wanted to buy a mannequin in the home visited late Tuesday and saw the skulls on a porch and inside, with one boiling on the stove.

The man left and called police, Nigro said.

The skulls were turned over to the Cook County medical examiner's office, Nigro said.

The skulls' owner told authorities he imported them legally from China.

10. "The skulls' owner told authorities..."
Okay, that just cracks me up. Four skulls, one owner, and the owner is still talking to authorities. How many heads did he start with? "Yes, officer, I sold four of my heads. They grow back. You know, like "Men in Black," or "Hercules?""

Sorry. I amuse myself this morning. No one has to pretend to be amused. I'm okay with that!

Frankly he seemed like the type of oddball whose ultimate demise might include his own head being found in a pot of boiling water so maybe that's why he was a little jumpy about the other guy...

19. When I was high school back in 1973 there were two men killing teenage boys.
One of the men lived in my old neighborhood and he had human skulls on his kitchen window.

My neighbor call the police about the skulls and they didn't think anything was wrong either.

Later on they started to find the bodies buried in a storage shed.

This became very famous.

I remember seeing the skulls myself, very clean looking.

21. When I was working on my MA, we boiled all kinds of body parts in crock pots.
We received stuff from the State Crime Lab, and we had to deflesh some of the stuff. At any given time, you might enter the physical anthro lab and find feet or hands boiling.

Crock pots are the best defleshing tools. :)

22. Is it because of the slow heat.
Crock pots are handy.

How long did it take to deflesh a hand or foot.

23. LOL.
This is funny...last time you and I talked about cooking, we were talking about deepfrying turkeys.

Yes, it's the slow heat, which removes the muscle tissue without destroying the connective tissue.

The feet we defleshed were pretty much mummified (state crime lab received them from a county...officers had found two dried, mummified feet in a paper bag in a house they raided). It took about three days for the flesh to fall away.

24. Deep fried turkeys and crock pot hands and feet.
The slow cooking makes sense, the muscle must be really tough.

How many DU'ers will reading this will never look at their crockpots the same again.

It might be fun to cut a roast in the shape of a foot or hand and cook it in a crock pot.

This is giving me ideas for dinner tomorrow, it is my day to cook.

31. I have this old roast I find in the back of the freezer.
The crockpot is the only thing that will cook it tender.

It is big enough for a foot and hand.

I like using the crockpot, just throw the stuff in and go.

I have one question for you, do you use a crockpot to cook in after working at this place.

35. It is that slow cooking, throw in a onion and a few other things.
My old roast should take 8 to 10 hours to cook.

There is nothing to tough for a crockpot to cook.

37. Here's how I do my roast...
I get a nice big roast, season it with celery salt, cumin, and Montreal Steak spice. Then I roll it in flour and then brown it in olive oil on all sides in a skillet. Then I put it in the crock pot with sliced onions, potatoes and carrots. Then I pour 1 can each of Campbell's beef boullion and Campbell's French Onion over it. Turn it on low, and let it cook all day.

It's SOOOOO good. :D

It's funny, the quote is originally from a vegan friend of mine. It was me, him, our skull drinking friend, and a couple other friends. He was talking about it, and we were all talking about how it's the most metal thing we've ever heard, and then our vegan friend piped up, "That is definitely not vegan."
