My company just laid off a bunch of people today
I am not part of that layoff but I feel awful for the folks that are.

The majority of these people are software engineers, industrial engineers, mathematicians...etc

Well educated people..many with Masters in their fields...some who have written books...

And all their jobs are being outsourced overseas...

I guess they weren't smart enough...
:sarcasm:

1. Or maybe not Republican enough...?
Just one of my conspiracy theories. Although I get the feeling that Republicans would rather eat each other then spend an extra nickel.

5. Of course... I'm trying to get a feel for how the tech sector is doing.
My husband was laid off from large computer company A in December, but a few weeks ago was hired by large computer company B. It was a surprisingly painless layoff. He had three job offers when it was over. We have a slew of friends, however, that still work for large computer company A that will likely face the same scenario next year, but I heard that there's still a lot of blood in the water for tech employees. I just hope that my buddies will have as good a chance to land new positions.

6. I can't really say for sure...
outsourcing has not worked for our company before...it has actually cost more money than it was worth to do...

but they keep trying it...

other companies will snap those folks up...some of them are quire talented...

7. But, but, but - I keep hearing that the US isn't graduating enough engineers, scientists and
technicians. Isn't that why we needed the No Child Left Behind Act?
