Who knows anything about home insulation? |
|
Okay, bought a house, in Florida, and it's May. Global warming May, mind you. I'd like to save some energy by not running the a/c so much. Peeped the attic insulation. Yeah, circa 1950amillionyearsago. I want to add/re-insulate the whole lot. It's roughly 1400 square feet.
Thoughts, DU? Type, cost, can I do this myself (bear in mind, I'm an idiot)? Rolls or one of those insulation shootin' hose deals?
Thanks in advance, my R-30 gurus!!!

1. Your local utility may offer discounts and/or rebates on this stuff. |

I bought a new a/c and furnace, and also insulation, solar screens, duct and pipe sealing. The insulation, which took me from about R21 to R30 cost a few hundred bucks to have done professionally. All told, I spent about $4700 on the HVAC and $1300 on all the other stuff. I got about $1500 back in rebates.
You might check into the energy efficiency programs available in your area.

Best thing is probably to get a blower and do blow-in insulation. Or you can just roll out whatever thickness you want yourself. There's nothing complicated about it, it's just going to take several car trips to drive it all home in your itty bitty car unless you rent a truck or something.
