Favorite "Guy's Movie"?
By definition, a movie for dudes is a movie with little or no women in it--so while "Die Hard," "Crimson Tide," "Goodfellas," "Patton," "Great Escape," and "The Good, the Bad, the Ugly" all qualify, ironically, so do "Jeffrey" and "Love, Valor, and Compassion."

But anyhoo, my favorite "Guy's movie" has gotta be "Master and Commander." The battle scenes are outstanding, the period detail is superb, and Russell Crowe has never been better. And no, there are no women in it. Not that that's necessarily a good thing, but there it is...

3. There was one woman in 'Twelve O' Clock High'
for about 30 seconds. Remember the scene? :D

Dog, I love that movie. B-17s and outstanding performances. What else do you need?

I've been inside the Picadilly Lilly, too. It's at the Planes of Fame Museum in Chino, Calif. :7

2. Au contraire!
a guy flick, by definition, has to have women in it.

Real men define their existence relative to women in one way or another.

So, having said that, here are what I consider guy flicks:

As good as it gets
Forrest Gump
Dark City
Donny Darko
Dances With Wolves
Shakespeare in Love
Titus Andronicus
The Matrix

27. Women are in "guy" movies
primarily as eye candy and/or to be rescued or wooed by the male hero/heroes. They get wooed by the hero if they are the brainy, but beautiful, assistant to the head bad guy...

Horowitz was great in that movie.

The exploding boom box and the pillow case full of soda cans are great scenes.

38. Sgt. Frantz's speech from "HAMBURGER HILL"
All right, listen up. You people are not dying on me in combat. You fucking, new guys will do everything to prove me wrong. You'll walk on trails, kick cans sleep on guard, smoke dope and diddely-bop through the bush like you were back on the block. On guard at night you'll write letters, play with your organ and think of your girl back home. Forget her. Some hair head has her on her back right now and is telling her to fuck for peace. This is Han. Those of you who are foolish will think of him as...gook, slope, slant or dink. He is your enemy. He came over on the Chieu Hoi programme. And he will go back there after he fattens on C- rations. And he will be hunting your young asses in the Ashau Valley. Now forget about this Viet Cong shit. What you'll encounter out there is hard core NVA, north Vietnamese...motivated, highly trained and well equipped. If you meet Han or his cousins, you will give him respect. And refer to those little bastards as the Nathanial Victor. Meet him twice, and survive, you can call him Mr. Nathaniel Victor. People, I am tired of filling body bags with your dumb fucking mistakes. Do you think this funny? Alphabet.

Han is closing in on your position. It's night, look at me. I'm gonna save your life and your gonna save mine. It's night, it's raining. While your thinking about peace, love and whether or not we should be in Vietnam...Han is going to cut your fucking throat. And your sleeping.... You've been humping the boonies for months. Your turn to sleep, your allowed to sleep. What do you think Han is going to do? Is he going to wake up Alphabet and smile? And talk about women? Mister Nathanial Victor gets his rocks off watching you die. Some of you think you have problems because your against the war. You demonstrated in school...you wear peace symbols on your steel. And you have attitudes. I'm orphan, my brother's queer, the city of Chicago got the clap from my sister. Mum drinks, Dad coughs blood, I have ringworm, emersion foot...the incurable crud and the draft ruined my chances of being a brain surgeon. People. You have no problem. Except me. And him.

Cool Hand Luke, continues to be my favorite movie ever.

Ethos, pathos, logos, machoism, humor, sadness, titillation, love of MaMa, loyalty, pain, suffering and finally peace. Can't beat it.

33. So many good ones to choose from
and if I went through my DVD collection, I'd probably be able to name a bunch. "Master and Commander" is a really good movie. I like it a lot. I'm not sure it's a "guy movie", only because my wife really likes it too.

"Die Hard" (the first one) DOES have one of the best all-out action sequences in a movie, in my opinion. I'm talking about towards the end of the movie, when Bruce Willis is up on top of the building, tying a fire-hose around his waist, knowing that he has to jump off the building. I just love it when he's tying the hose around himself, asking "John, what the fuck are you doing?!" I just think that is so perfect. Scared shitless that he's going to have to jump, but knowing he doesn't have a choice. And then when he jumps, reaches the end of the hose, slams into the side of the building, and then has to push himself away from the building and shoot his way in. Aahhhhh, guy movie heaven!! :)

True -- Nancy Dowd. I read once where her brother was a minor league hockey player, and he surreptitiously recorded his teammates in the locker room to give her a feel for "guy talk."

Men of Harlech stop your dreaming
Can't you see their spear points gleaming
See their warrior's pennants streaming
To this battle field

Men of Harlech stand ye steady
It cannot be ever said ye
For the battle were not ready
Stand and never yield

Form the hills rebounding
Let this war cry sounding
Summon all at Cambria's call
The mighty force surrounding

Men of Harlech onto glory
This shall ever be your story
Keep these fighting words before ye
Welshmen will not yield!

It's like watching Chamberlain at Little Round Top.
