I'm looking for dishwasher advice
My dishwasher doesn't really clean too well any more. Especially the glasses in the top rack. It's over 30 years old, and I think that all dishwashers should be replaced every 30 years or so.

Do all modern dishwashers clean fairly well these days? Do the expensive models work better, or do they just have more features?

2. I don't know too much about dishwashers, but yeah I would say after
30 years, you soooo need a new one! I am sure there are all kinds of options that yours don't offer. I have a new one and love it. The drying feature it has actually dries my dishes!!

4. They clean better, they're quieter, and most use less energy and water.
Some expensive ones do work better but mostly it's about added features and higher quality materials. A good mid range dishwasher will be much better than the one you have.

5. I agree
Earlier this year I replaced a 15 yoa dishwasher that was no longer working. The new one was one step up from the basic model and is quieter and cleans better than the old one. I'm sure you'll see a big improvement with your new one.

7. Oh, dude, I am SO the wrong person to ask.
I bought a top of the line LG for $1000 12/26/05. On 12/24/06, it started giving us a OE message, output error. Translation: need a new pump.

Fast forward to May 2007: LG and Best Buy are going to replace it next week.

I will NEVER buy an LG product again.

8. I use mainly cold water
in mine for a regular wash, and even at a cold setting, it does a remarkable job. I have a Sears Kenmore portable one. It takes forever for my water to get hot, and usually the second runthrough it's hot enough, but the first wash is usually just cold.

9. You can do very well with a mid-range Kitchen Aid
They clean very well, and are quiet. If you want the ultimate in quiet, go for a Bosch.

12. I just bought a new one a couple of months ago.
I went with a mid price Whirlpool. So far the Whirlpool works just fine. I can't hear it unless I'm in the kitchen.

15. ah ok - because I would be happy to pm you whatever they have
I don't "consume" enough to really justify my subscription, but would be happy to share.

I think the newer models may clean a bit better, and your guess about higher prices = more gimicks is probably true. The one "improvement" MAYBE worth more $$ is quiet, but if I recall from the above source, they are all still pretty noisy.

I have an 11 year old maytag (portable) that I kind of rebuilt last winter. I expect at least another 5 to 10 out of it. Probably not much help for you, sorry.

16. After buying a Bosch, I realized that a quiet dishwasher is nice!
Check out Consumer Reports tests of dishwasher- I believe the Bosch models are the quietest. Sometimes it's difficult to even notice it running. Less indoor noise pollution!
