Y'know, I never once figured out why no state ever adopted heroin as its form of lethal injection.

I mean, think about it. With a good solid heroin overdose,there's none of this "he laid there for ten minutes, paralyzed and in pain, freaking out because the drugs were taking so long to work" shit you get with the three-drug cocktail. When you OD on smack, you die Right Now. Most of the time, when the paramedics come to pick up a heroin OD he's still got the syringe in his arm.

Besides, we've already GOT the heroin. This is the United Fucking States of America, where we have a whole industry devoted to drug seizures. Using the heroin to execute people means (1) we don't have to buy the three drugs we use to kill people now and (2) we don't have to spend the money to destroy that smack. Just stick a bale of good-quality horse in a safe somewhere and use it in executions.

As for the dose, that's pretty easy too: take two 35cc cardiac syringes, fill 'em with heroin and inject one into each arm. Poof. It's not like it's going to cost any more to inject 70cc of heroin than to inject 10.

Unless you are planning on dying very soon, you moght want to consider staying away from that shit. First, heroin itself is highly addictive. One shot could do it. Second, the dealers are wholely untrustworthy. Who knows if you are getting just heroin? They might have cut it with any one of a number of white powers, none of which are particularly good for you. The delivery system itself could leave you with an infection, liver damage or even AIDS. Lastly, suppose you overdose, then what?

So yeah, it's a crazy idea.

I want to get all the cool drugs: smack, crack, oxy, x, fentanyl. And some fine hash. Bring 'em on.

But until then, I'll pass. It's just not worth it. I've known too many doctors and nurses hooked on drugs, and it's no fun after a while. They just keeping taking them so that they won't feel terrible, not because they feel great any more. Plus, I know a med student who grew a $1000 a day oxy habit. She'll have to keep working til she's 105 to pay off the bills.

So, if you're dying, do it. If you plan to stick around this planet for a while (and I do: it's an interesting place), avoid anything habit forming. I include tobacco and alcohol - they've brought me enough trouble. Marijuana's probably okay, though I avoid it merely because it's illegal and I don't need the grief.

I love drugs. I think they really can help you explore places in your head you might not ever get to otherwise. I love pot and in my youth I loved peyote, mescaline, psilocybin, etc. ...and I'm not adverse to doing them again sometime. I've smoked opium a couple of times. It was OK but too nodding off for me. I like drugs that pick me up, not make me drowsy.

That all said...STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM HEROIN. The problem with just trying it once, is you CAN become addicted on just one try. That is the thing about heroin that is SO dangerous. You don't know ahead of time, if your body is one of the ones that will latch onto it so fast. ...and heroin addiction is not a fun way to live. I've known a couple of people who were hooked on it. They were not happy people and life was not full of fun for them and they would have sold their mother to get more. STAY AWAY FROM HEROIN.
