First date sex 'increases chance of relationship' |
|
http://www.marieclaire.co.uk/news/First_date_sex_increases_chance_of_relationship_article_117671.htmlFORGET EVERYTHING YOUR mother ever told you: it appears that sex on a first date can actually increase your chances of a long-term relationship. The accepted wisdom has long been that women seeking commitment from a new man should hold back in the bedroom - or risk being unceremoniously dumped the morning after. But now an academic at University College London is claiming that people are more likely to fall in love or embark on a long-term relationship once they have slept together. snip

They go to a movie, grab a pizza and screw their brains out on the first date, but they wait until the third date to kiss.

7. I married the first woman that had sex with me on a first date |
|
And, the sex was her idea. I was the one that wanted to wait until the next date...
But, it wasn't a happy ending, obviously, as she filed for divorce less than a year into our marriage. (it was almost 2 years from when we had that first date until we got married, if you were wondering)

looks-wise, she is the total opposite of my wife now. My wife now is very slim, black hair, brown eyes and medium height or so. My ex was pretty pale, blue eyed, auburn hair, and very short (a shade under 5'0") and her dad used to joke that she was really the adopted daughter of Dolly Parton. But, they were both outgoiing & intelligent. (I once joked that once I didn't speak to my ex for 2 whole weeks because I didn't want to interrupt her while she was talking!)
the weird thing is, before I met my ex-wife, I hardly had dated at all the first 28-29 years of my life. So, I'm certainly no Obi-Wan. For some reason, as soon as she filed for divorce & moved out, I suddenly had more dates than I knew what to do with... but, I wouldn't advise getting married & then divorced so your dating life will pick up.

I rarely date. I'm more of a sit at home and read type of guy. Here and there I will go on one, but even when I am dating someone, I typically do my own thing and require my space a lot. I'm a bit tough to know nowadays.
I like how you just shrug it off when I give you hell, it cracks me up. :) :toast:

14. Is it first date sex that's the reason for the relationship? |
|
or is the first date sex just an indication of really great chemistry that would have resulted in a relationship anyway? There's no control of variables here. No way to prove that the sex caused the attraction and not vice versa.
Not that I'm opposed to first-date sex.

17. I think this is cuckoo. Too many unknowns. |
|
How well the parties knew each other before the first date would have a great deal to do with it, I mean with whether an LTR resulted. (Most of the time; I know there are exceptions.)
If people want to have sex on their first date, that's their business.
Not for me. The other party could be having sex with somebody else the next day. Another thing, that might be the last you see of that other person. Now, for some people neither of these scenarios would be a problem, but it would bother me.

The getting to know you phase invariably leads to flaws in a person's personality being exposed and one of them breaking it off before anything truly develops to sustain a LTR. Sex releases endorphins which block this sometimes on the mark-sometimes not judgement.
In this day and age when people are looking for perfect people which don't exist, sex is the trump card.

Just as with the nonsense about "10 minute bouts of exercise three times a day" by a media that'll say anything for money , so is first date sex.
Never mind my past experiences.
And I'm grateful I'm disease free. Some aren't, and to hear them pawn it off as "It was fun getting there!" is sad. Let's just say I've been in support group meetings. It's sad, seriously.

For me, it seems like sex on the first date just ended up being a one-nighter. And I've found one-night stands to be wholly unsatisfying. I would much prefer to get to know somebody first. Then again, I am not exactly hard to seduce in the first place either.

41. Come on now. I told you guys how to do this... |
|
On your first date, you watch "A Clockwork Orange" and screw your brains out on the living room floor.
On your second date, you get engaged.
Six weeks later, you go down and get married. Make sure to spend less than $100 on the ceremony, and it's best if your entire wedding party goes to the wrong place to watch you get hitched.
And no, I'm not kidding. Especially the part about the wedding party.

46. On this one first date, one time ... |
|
...I met this woman in a dark alley, after being dropped off by a truck loaded with beef jerky, in town with no car. I was buying a motorcycle, she agreed to meet me at the guy's garage I was buying it from.
I bought it, followed her back to her place. Dropped off the bike, she drove us to a fantastic little italian restaurant, then back to her place. Stayed the weekend (cue wa-wa pedal guitar).
We're getting married in November. :D
...Which isn't to say every single other first-date sex experience in my lifetime wasn't completely different.

Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Sometimes you get to know people before the actual date (friends for months or even years maybe) and by the time you actually get to finally having that "date", you can't take it anymore and it all just, um, bursts.
I think if people have sex to "get someone" that's stupid. If you have sex (safely obviously and being honest) because you like the person and just want to be with them without games, without anything other than that moment, there's no harm to anyone. If it works for the long haul, even better.
So congratulations, Robb! :bounce: :woohoo:
p.s. No confessions from me at the moment. I just thought it was an interesting article. :)

If Person A and Person B have been eying each other lustfully and are clearly MUTUALLY attracted, then I can see how it would work.
But if Person A thinks that uninterested Person B will fall in love simply because of a night of hot sex, uhhh, it usually doesn't work that way.
