State looks to pull anti-Bush license plate
RAPID CITY -- Heather Moriah loves the personalized license plates on her silver Prius encouraging the impeachment of President George W. Bush.

The South Dakota Dept. of Motor Vehicles have decided to rescind Heather Morijah's personalized license plates "MPEACHW" because of one reported complaint. The Rapid City residentis the conservation organizer for the West River Office of the Sierra Club.

But somebody doesn’t agree. And that somebody complained to the state. Now, the South Dakota Division of Motor Vehicles is trying to recall the plates -- which read MPEACHW. And if Moriah doesn’t turn them in voluntarily, the state might send law-enforcement officers to pick them up.

1. WTF?
So one person complains and the plate has to be returned.

"...any letter combination which carries connotations offensive to good taste and decency."

Well, the man himself is offensive to good taste and decency, so....

"The plates never would have been issued if DMV officials had caught their meaning at the time Moriah applied, Hillmer said."

What are those people, morons? How could they not have understood what they meant at the time? Sounds like a case of CYA to me.

3. I think the letter combination PRESBUSH is offensive to good taste and decency.
Do you think I should complain about the GWBUSH license plate I saw at the grocery store a few months ago? It was an affront to my sense of good taste and decency.

5. That's bullshit. If it were anti Clinton they wouldn't consider pulling them.
I personally wouldn't have controversial plates on my car and don't attach bumper stickers either, because of the potential vandalism. But that is my choice, and she should be able to do so. I'll bet a lot more people like them than not.

6. in the article
the DMV person says the plate is "not in good taste and decency" But WHY????
The idea of impeachment is in very good taste, even if it's just for a blow-job I guess, but still it's us citizens' right. What is distateful about a law made to protect us, especially from the kind of shit that's happening now? x(

9. Thank you.
It's paraphrased from a friend's comment about ten years ago, but it fits. Oh boy does it fit.

I think next time I go home to visit my parents I'll put a sign that says that in my rear window and see who it ticks off.
