...only 3.8 of married men and 2 percent of women in France admitted to having affairs.
They were outdone by the strait-laced citizens of the United States, where acknowledged rates of cheating came to 3.9 percent of men and 3.1 percent of women. But on a national average, U.S. adulterers were much more likely to beat themselves up over it.

1. I think statistics are skewed
in other words, I don't think people answer honestly. It seems every person that I know has been or is getting divorced because of an affair (by them or the partner or both). Granted, perhaps I know the horniest people in the world, but somehow I think the percentages are too low.

2. i thought the numbers sounded low as well
but that doesn't explain why US is higher than French when the French don't put such a stigma on it.
