Do you laugh when people hurt themselves doing stupid things?

When I watch those programs that show people doing X-treme sports, and they end up hurting themselves, I usually laugh and say, "That's what they get."

Is that wrong? Am I alone on this, or do you do the same?

33. It's not necessarily something to be ashamed of.
There's an element of recognition in it, maybe, and the laughter can be a release of tension. Pure schadenfreude is not a beast we should feed, though.

...at my own clumsiness/stupidity.

Best. Movie. Line. Evah.

From RocketMan.

I usually get a giggle out of stuff like that as long as they're not maimed, disfigured or otherwise permanently damaged.

10. That's what I'm talking about; extreme stunts on t.v.

Motorcyclists who jump 20 buses and miss the ramp, or bicyclists who try and set speed records fllying down a mountainside at 100 m.p.h., when all of a sudden their bike disintegrates, or skateboarders doing extreme stunts, and rack themselves good, or crack their head on the pavement. I laugh at all of them, cheer them on, actually, because without people doing these things there would be less entertainment.

12. No....
I have a very hard time watching people hurt or embarrass themselves, which helps explain why I enjoy so little of what's on TV right now, and why I can't watch or listen to Bush speak.

15. I am very sympathetic to people who accidently get injured.
But when it comes to performing idiotic stunts that have an element of physical risk, I have to laugh when things don't turn out right.

18. Only if know they weren't seriously hurt
If as they say around here, it "only hurt their pride," then yes I laugh. :D

In most situations though, I'm very empathetic and wierdly, I will even change the channel or look away if a character is doing something really embarassing, never mind a real person! :P

and how badly they got hurt. But yes, I have been known to laugh at some of them. Like the idiot that stuck his head in the mouth of a crocodile. The best argument for abortion in the world as far as I'm concerned, and he lived, so hell yeah it was funny!

22. Me either. God I hate that show
Most of the people on AFHV aren't even doing anything "stupid," either; they're just playing a normal sport or playing with a dog, and then suddenly LOLZ!!! the batter hits the ball and it hits a guy in the nuts! Or the dog decides to suddenly bite them! Hahahahah because people doing perfectly normal activities like playing baseball or petting a dog and then getting injured is so hilarious!

What a puerile, sadistic little show that is.

24. The opening of AFV this evening was ONLY people getting hurt.
I would rather turn off the television than watch that poor excuse for entertainment.

I have written to the station on more than one occasion.

People getting injured is not funny, and I know some of these accidents appear to have been rather serious.

26. The saddest thing about AFHV
Trace Beaulieu, the main writer for AFHV, was the original voice of Crow T. Robot, and played Dr. Clayton Forrestor,on Mystery Science Theater 3000,one of the funniest shows in history.

Pretty damn sad.

When I see a skateboarder yomp his sack on a railing...yes,I laugh.

There's other stuff that seems mean spirited, and I tend to shy away from that.If it's footage of someone who truly got hurt it tends not to be so funny. An example;I was watching a show about skydivers, and they showed footage of two skydivers trying a midair high-five.Sounds good until you realize how fast they're traveling on descent. When they met hands one of skydivers arms damn near snapped off. Now,what they did was stupid, but it was anything but funny (not too mention something the squeamish would have absolutely passed out watching).

See if you laugh at this though;

An old girlfriend told me about when she was a kid and making a snow fort. She had tunneled through the pile and was popping through the other side just as her friend went to pack down the snow with a shovel.Shovel met face.

I laughed my ass off when she told me that.It was Three Stooges quality.

Might be why she's an "old" girlfriend and not a current one.

It's hard to explain why the things that make us laugh make us laugh. It's like porn...you know it when you see it. :)

If you are dumb enough to not only commit the stupid act, but record it for all to see, hell yeah I'm gonna laugh. I am a klutz, and I spend an inordinate amount of time laughing at myself because of the dumb-ass injuries/pratfalls that I get, so why not laugh at others?

My SO and I watch it. We call it "THE DIPSHIT HOUR," people doing risky things and NOT beating the odds.

I'm serious, if you watch it, you'll love it. Especially the one with chariot drag racing where one guy's chariot catapults him OVER a power line.

Serious funny stuff here.
