4. Happy 1/2 birthday to you! We used to have parties for our kids on their

half birthdays. Son David, born December 10, had an outdoor pool party on June 10, which he could never have done in Massachusetts. Most of his parties were movies or ice skating in a rink, which his mother (me) can't do.

Daughter Linda, born October 9th, didn't have a problem with beautiful fall colors and apple picking. However, she is a Jewish woman, and as a girl, her birthday sometimes fell on Yom Kippur, one of the most solemn days of the jewish calendar. We frequently went to synagogue services, so she stayed home anyway.

I don't think we adjusted Michael's birthday. School was back in session and the real cold weather hadn't set in. However, his birthday now is shifted to another day. It has really bad connotations and he was inconsolable after the attacks at the New York World Trade Center on September 11, his birthday.
