Just checking in. It's balmy up here!
Only -5 with a wind chill of -17. Not as bad as they predicted but it will get worse later tonight. I have had a roaring fire going in my fireplace since 7 am. This is an old stone fireplace with what they call a "heatilator" which blows heated air back into the house. Now the vents that blow the hot air back in are too hot to touch. It's so warm in here now that my heating system has taken a well deserved rest. I think I'm going to be ok tonight. I hope everybody else in this big chill is too! :hi:

1. I'm so glad you've posted
I talk to my DH about stuff I've read on DU (he doesn't read or post here, he works in the high tech industry...) and I mentioned to him last night that "Will Pitt's mom" is in the middle of the big freeze back East, and I was hoping that you were okay.

I'm glad to see that you are toasty warm, and everything's fine.

Here's to staying warm and dry :toast:,

Julie

6. Bring your battery inside for the night
My husband does that sometimes when it's going to be real cold like you guys have now. It seems to make a big difference.

Course now we all have block heaters installed to plug in at night to keep it warm.

Take care out there :scared:

4. By the time it finally reaches the 20 above mark
it'll feel almost like tee-shirt weather.

We usually get at least one decent cold snap with temps and windchills regularly falling to minus 25 to 30. The kind of cold you guys are having out there now, I've only experienced it once maybe twice and it is downright dangerous :scared: Ugh

Glad yer doing ok, take care :-)

7. It's in the upper 50s - low 60s here in Houston.
Don't need a coat to go outside.

You can make fun of us in the summer when it's hotter than hell here.

9. Pilot light went out
today in my daughter's furnace in Melrose.
It's a really old gas hot water behemoth. Inside temp got down to 55.
God bless the man who came out in less than a couple of hours and relit it for her.
She asked what she owed him.
"Nothing lady. I'll be back. That antique of yours needs some major surgery. All we're doing now is getting folks back up and running again. I'll come back when this is over and give you and estimate on what needs doing."
