Poll question: What is your favorite PBS program
Without cable I'm limited to what I watch, thankfully,so I'm left with about ten channels that come in...three of them in Spanish, which does me no good other than the sheer number of fake breasts to look at.

Needless to say,PBS is my lifeline, and I'd be lost without it.I'd pick the "all of the above" option.

How about you?

1. Three-way tie
American Experience, Frontline and Bill Moyers' Journal.

I'm also cable-deprived, but I have a biggo outdoor antenna with a rotor and I live on the cusp of two broadcast markets, so I get 13 English-broadcast stations, plus another 10 or so that are either Spanish (and one that's Korean/Chinese/Japanese), home shopping or religious. I'm eternally grateful that two of the 13 are PBS stations; they're about all I watch anymore.

3. It's funny...here I am on a political board and I forgot all about Frontline.
I knew people would think of Moyers as soon as I posted the poll.

I get three PBS stations (2 from Mass,1 from NH) and I'd be totally lost without them.I'm watching a show on sharks as we type.

17. Is one of 'em WGBH?
Or is it WBGH? The one in Boston?

Anyway, seems like half the PBS shows I've seen are produced by them.

I'll always consider KERA in Dallas as a shrine, though. It was the first U.S. station to air Monty Python's Flying Circus. :7

19. Yup..WGBH is out of Boston.
And Monty Python was my indoctrination into the world of British comedy.I don't even think I got most of Monty Python (I was maybe 8-9 years old) but I remember Gilliam's animations cracked me up.

Plus,it might the first place I saw a nude woman on tv. :wow:

"That's Booquet!"

I didn't think of the comedies.I get into the sillier ones like Red Dwarf and Blackadder, but Keeping Up Appearences is a good one too. That poor husband. :)

5. I like Frontline the most but Nova is pretty cool, too.
I used to always watch P.O.V. but it hasn't been on lately...probably cancelled because it's so controversial.

7. I still get P.O.V. here,but it seems sporadic.
There were running a great show called A.I.R.-America's Investigative Reporters for awhile after NOW on Fridays, but I haven't seen that one lately either.

10. McLaughlin Group
It's hilarious, especially when Lawrence O'Donnell is on and he goes off on Tony Blankley and Pat Buchanan. Good stuff.

Other than that I dig The Newshour with Jim Lehrer, Charlie Rose, and Frontline.

12. O'Donnell is friggin hilarious!
Blankeys brain (assuming he has one somewhere in that reptile head of his) must be ready to explode every time Lawrence says something.

And the Newshour is the only news program worth a damn, imo.

13. Oh man, Lawrence flips out
You can just see Tony get all red-faced. Then McLaughlin is hilarious too. He always screws around with Tony and Pat, it's great. I hate it when they bring in twerps like Mort Zuckerman or some clown like that and tney all gang up on Eleanor. O'Donnell is the best rotating guest. Then maybe Clarence Page.

Oh yeah, Lehrer puts on a quality news show. Very good stuff. I like his debate and convention and SOTU coverage too. I prefer to watch his show's analysis over any of the other networks. Well, I don't get cable, so I guess I would probably prefer watching MSNBC because of KO, but other than that PBS has Lehrer moderate the after event analysis. It's good. He is so much better than Brian Williams and all of those network anchors. Class act.

If not let me know and I'll dig up the links for you, because they are must see tv.Can you imagine what this country would like if all journalists actually did their work like Moyers?

I was nearly in tears, watching Buying the War. I knew a lot of this stuff already, but damn, it was still like a slap in the face.

22. It's everything we knew put into one concise package.
It's maddening to see it come out now instead of years ago when we all knew it here. But I'm glad someone finally had the courage to tell the story, and I'm not surprised it was Moyers.

He's been a truth-teller for many years. I just wish more "newsies" had the courage of Bill Moyers.
