The Sopranos: weekly discussion thread. SPOILER ALERT!!! |
|
So, anyone want to talk about last night's show? What the hell is the matter with Paulie, bagging on Christopher the way he was? Chris had every right to be furious with him, after all Paulie ripped off his father-in-law, and terrorized his wife and daughter at their home. I thought that was one of the rules of the mob - family means everything, and you leave them out of your day to day activities. I think Paulie was due for a righteous smackdown, and Tony just seemed so shrug.
So, Chrissie takes out his anger and frustration on the screenwriter! Whew!
I think AJ is going to get killed - he is running with a tough crowd, and I think he's going to get in the middle of something and get his ass killed.
Only four episodes left!

he basically has appetites. His greed knows no bounds; all he cares about is getting paid.

2. Yeah, of all the sociopaths on that show, Paulie is the most sociopathic of them all. |
|
He really is an animal. If any of them have to die, I hope it's him.

on his meds and alcohol. Something is going to happen to him and it will be tragic.
Will Chris go to the Feds and ask for witness protection in return for his testimony?

7. He may indeed do that. He's very upset with Tony, and real tired of the lifestyle. |
|
He mentioned how Gravano is living off the government teat in Arizona, and how he wouldn't mind that since it's closer to Hollywood. He's feeling a lot of sorrow over Adrianna, too. He just doesn't seem to see any future in the mob anymore, and wants out. He may go witness protection, or he may just get whacked.

5. I've always hated Paulie! He isn't trustworthy at all! I think |
|
Christopher is going to get wacked. And I am also concerned about AJ. But I think the crowd he's running with may be a little scared that he is a Soprano.

|
I think his new crowd is scared and impressed that AJ is a Soprano, but they could easily get involved in a tussle with the wrong group, and AJ could get caught in the crossfire. I just have a bad feeling about this.

I am also wondering about Bobby. And I think Tony is losing it a bit. He seems to be losing control of himself and the business.

according to a post on Kos. I couldn't read the title of the book she was reading in bed. It figures that greedy, self centered Carmela was reading Barnes' love note to George Bush! http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2007/5/7/55350/38566

My crush on Carmela officially ended when she was shown reading "Rebel in Chief". I think Carmela is the favorite character of many viewers. It seems the writers are going to some lengths to remind us that in her own way she is just as loathsome as the rest.

Carmela reconciled her religious beliefs with how her husband earns his money. She made her choice, and it was then that I decided that she was as big a piece of shit as anyone else on that show.

Clearly AJ got a buzz from being involved in the torture of that gambler. Perhaps this is his entry into the life.
Tony talked about passing his bad traits down to his son, he has used his taste for sadism to relive his depression on a few occasions.

where the Arab gangsters fell in the org chart. Did they work as independents, or were they a part of Phil's crew? Maybe it was a way to tweak Phil some?

help from turning those guys in. If the Feds are going to bust mobsters, they are going to lean on them for other mobsters. I wouldn't think they'd give Tony too much currency.

28. I think the thing to look for next.... |
|
...is an overture from the agent (never can remember his name) subtly inviting Tony to spill his guts. Remember, up until now, even where it concerns the Arabs, Tony's response to the agents has been an unequivocal "NO" (because they've been asking him for a couple of years now to give them info on the Arabs). He's made it clear that doesn't rat under any circumstances.
Only now, maybe he does.
**I told a friend of mine after last week's episode that my theory for the ending of the series is that Tony is going to be the one who goes to the feds.

anos is going to live on in some form, a movie possibly. I can't see that Tony scenario fitting into the idea of the Sopranos living on unless it's him on the run. Don't know if I could buy that. Interesting thought though. My guess for the ending is that Carmella is going to kill Tony.

32. That's not what they were saying yesterday on the TV Guide channel. Seemed like the consensus among |

the actors they spoke with was that it was going to live on in some form. A movie seems the most logical to me, but I guess they could do another spin-off show or something but I can't see myself watching that.

29. I saw everything in that ep coming except when Christufuh took out the screenwriter. |
|
:yoiks: My predictions: Chrissy flips and becomes an FBI informant, but not before he takes out Paulie. AJ follows in Tony's footsteps and joins the mob. Tony is hauled in by one branch of the FBI for RICO violations, but the Anti-Terrorism Task Force overrides them and grants Tony immunity from prosecution in exchange for his (actually Christufuh's) info on the Middle Eastern guys that hung out at the Bing.

40. Every time Christopher and Paulie get into it |
|
someone else ends up dying. It's always been that way. There was the russian, then the waiter at the restaurant, and now the writer. Paulie did go over the line when he trashed Christopher's lawn while his wife and child were in the house. I have to wonder about the symbolism at the end of the show where Chrissy rights a tree Paulie knocked over in his yard before he went inside.
I think AJ is finally getting the road into the family that he's always wanted. He tried so hard last season to make something out of being Tony Soprano Jr. that he ended up spending tons of money on nobodies. Now, he's running with Patsy Parisi's son, and may find himself belonging to a crew on the fast-track to being on the inside.
Carmella stated in a previous episode that she voted for Bush, and Meadow gave her an earful about it. It's not surprising that she would be reading some book about the idiot. :eyes:

43. It wasn't until after the writer said: |
|
"Christopher, you're in the mafia!" that he was actually killed. I think that up to that point, Christopher might have let him live despite what he knew if he had just listened to Christopher vent. The writer getting shot goes along with the Paulie and Christopher formula that's been established.
Paulie + Christopher + Conflict = Someone else gets whacked.
