Post your most meaningful song lyric

Just a line in a song that holds deep meaning for you; one that you really relate to.

For me, it comes from a Joni Mitchell song...

"There's no comprehending just how close to the eyes

and the bones

and the skin

and the lips

you can get,

yet still feel so alone...."

From "Coyote"

1. Blind Melon's Change
When you feel your life aint worth living
You've got to stand up and
Take a look around you then a look way up to the sky.
And when your deepest thoughts are broken,
Keep on dreaming boy, cause when you stop dreamin its time to die.

When life is hard, you have to change

3. And Peace to this Young Warrior comes with a Bullet Hole
"Indian Sunset" by Elton John, a tribute to Geronimo

On a personal note - "There's a Candle in the window and Christmas in our hearts." Christmas song by Alabama. My Mom put an electric christmas candle in my bedroom window when I went to bootcamp in 72 so I could always find my way home and it stayed there until both of my parents died. Its now in our home.

6. It's About Time by John Denver
There's a full moon over India
And Gandhi lives again
Who's to say you have to lose
For someone else to win
In the eyes of all the people
The look is much the same
For the first is just the last one
When you play a deadly game

It's about time we realize it
We're all in this together
It's about time we find out
It's all of us or none
It's about time we recognize it
These changes in the weather
It's about time, it's about changes
And it's about time

There's a light in the Vatican window
For all the world to see
And a voice cries in the wilderness
Sometimes he speaks for me
I suppose I love him most of all
When he kneels to kiss the land
With his lips upon our Mother's breast
He makes his strongest stand

It's about time we start to see it
The earth is our only home
It's about time we start to face it
We can't make it here all alone
It's about time we start to listen
To the voices in the wind
It's about time and it's about changes
And it's about time

There's a man who is my brother
I just don't know his name
But I know his home and family
Because I know we feel the same
And it hurts me when he's hungry
And when his children cry
I too, am a father
That little one is mine

It's about time we begin it
To turn the world around
It's about time we start to make it
The dream we've always known
It's about time we start to live it
The family of man
It's about time, it's about changes
And it's about time
It's about peace and it's about plenty
And it's about time
It's about you and me together
And it's about time

56. You are welcome....
I read a piece by him years ago where he was talking about the time he wrote this. It was during his "self evaluation" period. He said that all of the problems in the world could be solved by just making sure that people create "win-win" situations for each other. The "deadly game" in which he speaks of is man's tendancy to think that in order to be successful somebody else has to fail. We go through our entire life thinking that way. It's so easy to create win-win scenarios so that everyone benefits but people never consider it.

10. Mine is from the movie The Greatest, the life of Muhammad Ali.
All of the lyrics are meaningful to me. Please do yourself a favor and listen to the original version of the song by George Benson. IMO, Whitney Houston stripped it of it's meaning with her overblown interpretation. Here's the original version by George as well as the lyrics:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CE4SUl-K1Do

I believe the children are our are future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be
Everybody searching for a hero
People need someone to look up to
I never found anyone to fulfill my needs
A lonely place to be
So I learned to depend on me

Chorus:
I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone's shadows
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can't take away my dignity
Because the greatest love of all
Is happening to me
I found the greatest love of all
Inside of me
The greatest love of all
Is easy to achieve
Learning to love yourself
It is the greatest love of all

I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be

(Chorus)

And if by chance, that special place
That you've been dreaming of
Leads you to a lonely place
Find your strength in love

12. At the moment...
Through the fish-eyed lens of tear-stained eyes,
I can barely define the shape of this moment in time
And far from flying high in clear blue skies,
I'm spiraling down to the hole in the ground where I hide.

- Roger Waters, "The Final Cut"

In general...

Some people seem so obsessed with the morning,
Get up early just to watch the sun rise
Some people like it more when there's fire in the sky,
Worship the sun when it's high
Some people go for those sultry evenings,
Sipping cocktails in the blue, red and grey,
But I like every minute of the day.

I like every second
So long as you are on my mind
Every moment has its special charm
It's all right when you're around, rain or shine

I know a crowd who only live after midnight
Their faces always seem so pale
And then there's friends of mine who must have sunlight
They say a suntan never fails
I know a man who works the night shift
He's lucky to get a job and some pay
And I like every minute of the day

I dig every second
I can laugh in the snow and rain
I get a buzz from being cold and wet
The pleasure seems to balance out the pain

And so you see that I'm completely crazy
I even shun the South of France
The people on the hill, they say I'm lazy
But when they sleep, I sing and dance
Some people have to have those sultry evenings,
Cocktails in the blue, red and grey,
But I like every minute of the day
I like every minute of the day.

- Pete Townshend, "Blue, Red and Grey"

There are many, many more, but those are the ones that immediately come to mind. :)

15. A Blind Man's Penis
I got high last night on LSD
My mind was beautiful, and I was free
Warts loved my nipples because they are pink
Vomit on me, baby
Yeah Yeah Yeah.

Stevie Wonder's penis is erect because he's blind
It's erect because he's blind, it's erect because he's blind
Stevie Wonder's penis is erect because he's blind
It's erect because he is blind

Let's make love under the stars and watch for UFOs
And if little baby Martians come out of the UFOs
You can fuck them
Yeah Yeah Yeah.

The zebra spilled its plastinia on bemis
And the gelatin fingers oozed electric marbles
Ramona's titties died in hell
And the Nazis want to kill everyone.

Stevie Wonder's penis is erect because he's blind ... etc.

17. Currently I find myself listening to
a fairly cheesy song from the movie (still in theatres) Music and Lyrics.

The song "Way Back Into Love" sung by Haley Bennett includes these lines:

"I've been watching but the stars refuse to shine,
I've been searching but I just don't see the signs.
I know that it's out there;
There's gotta be something
For my soul somewhere."

Right now, that sums it up

32. "A New Name For Everything"
Pretty much the whole song.

When the bus shelter windows and napkin dispensers suprise,
with distorted reflections it's never the someone you're hoping to recognize,
and the rent is too high living here bewtween reasons to live,
where you can't sleep alone and your memories grown and the borders of night start to give,
when you (when you) can't save cash or conviction you're broken you're breaking a tired shoelace or a wave,
so long past past-due, a new name for everything

When the runways collude with the map that you folded wrong,
and the route you abandoned is always the path that you probably should be upon,
when the bottle-cap-ashtrays and intimate sears are all full,
with results of your breath and the threads of your fear are unfurled with the tiniest pull
one more time try
stand with your hands and your pockets and stare at the smudge on a newspaper sky
and ask it to rain a new name for everything

Fire every phrase
they don't wanna work
for us anymore
dot and dash our days
make your face the flag
of a semaphore

All you won't show
the boxes you brought here and never unpacked are still patiently waiting to go
So put on those clothes you never grew into
and smile like you mean it for once
If you come back bring a new name for everything

35. can we do a whole song
it's a package :D
Monty Python's Universe Song

Just remember that you’re standing on a planet that’s evolving and revolving at nine hundred miles an hour.
It’s orbiting at ninety miles a second, so it’s reckoned, the sun that is the source of all our power.
The sun and you and me, and all the stars that we can see are moving at a million miles a day
Through an outer spiral arm at forty thousand miles an hour, of the galaxy we call the Milky Way.

Our galaxy itself contains a hundred billion stars, it’s a hundred thousand light-years side to side.
It bulges in the middle, sixteen thousand light-years thick, but out by us it’s just three thousand light-years wide.
We’re thirty thousand lightyears from galactic central point..we go round every two hundred million years.
And our galaxy is only one of millions and billions in this amazing and expanding universe!

The universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding in all of the directions it can whiz.
As fast as it can go, that’s the speed of light, you know.. 12 million miles a minute, and that’s the fastest speed there is.
So remember when you’re feeling very small and insecure, how amazingly unlikely is your birth!
And pray that there’s intelligent life somewhere out in space, ‘cause there’s bugger-all down here on Earth.

Digging through
My old numb shadow

My shadow's
Shedding skin
and I've been picking
scabs again.
I'm down
digging through
my old muscles
for a clue.
I've been crawling on my belly
clearing out what could've been.
I've been wallowing in my own confused
and insecure delusions
for a piece to cross me over
or a word to guide me in.
I wanna feel the changes coming down.
I wanna know what I've been hiding
in (my shadow. 2x)
Change is coming through my shadow.
My shadow's
shedding skin.
I've been picking
my scabs again.

Join in my
Join in my child,
my shadow moves,
closer to me

I've been crawling on my belly
clearing out what could've been
I've been wallowing in my own chaotic,
insecure delusions.
I wanna feel the change consume me,
feel the outside turning in.
I wanna feel the metamorphosis and
cleansing I've endured in,
(my shadow. 2x)
Change is coming.
Now is my time.
Listen to my muscle memory.
Contemplate what I've been clinging to.
Forty-six and two ahead of me.

I,
choose to live and to,
grow,
take and give and to,
move,
learn and love and to,
cry,
kill and die and to,
be,
paranoid and to,
lie,
hate and fear and to,
do,
what it takes to move through.

I choose to live and to,
lie,
kill and give and to,
die,
learn and love and to,
do,
what it takes to step through.

See my shadow changing,
stretching up and over me
soften this old armor.
Hoping I can clear the way by
stepping through my shadow,
coming out the other side.
Step into the shadow.
Forty six and two
are just ahead of me.

40. Bob Dylan's 'Song To Woody'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6j5v1VL5io&mode=related&search=

I'm out here a thousand miles from my home,
Walkin' a road other men have gone down.
I'm seein' your world of people and things,
Your paupers and peasants and princes and kings.

Hey, hey Woody Guthrie, I wrote you a song
'Bout a funny ol' world that's a-comin' along.
Seems sick an' it's hungry, it's tired an' it's torn,
It looks like it's a-dyin' an' it's hardly been born.

Hey, Woody Guthrie, but I know that you know
All the things that I'm a-sayin' an' a-many times more.
I'm a-singin' you the song, but I can't sing enough,
'Cause there's not many men that done the things that you've done.

Here's to Cisco an' Sonny an' Leadbelly too,
An' to all the good people that traveled with you.
Here's to the hearts and the hands of the men
That come with the dust and are gone with the wind.

I'm a-leaving' tomorrow, but I could leave today,
Somewhere down the road someday.
The very last thing that I'd want to do
Is to say I've been hittin' some hard travelin' too.

"We made you feel the way you are is wrong
We made you what you are
You are afraid
If you don't play the game, we'll make you change
Oh, I've changed"

47. Kind of sappy
but Mariah Carey's Hero actually helped me at a low point in my life

"There's a hero if you look into your heart,
You don't have to be afraid of what you are!"

"There's an answer if you look into your soul
and the sorrow that you know will disappear!"

"The Lord knows dreams are hard to follow but don't let anyone tear them away. Hold on there will be tomorrow in time you'll find the way."

So listen up homeboy, give this a thought
The next time someone's teaching why don't you get taught?"

49. From Rush
If you choose not to decide
You still have made a choice

- Freewill

Also a big fan of Neil Young's "Leave the Driving"

And we'll be watching you
No matter what you do
And you can do your part
By watching others too

But there's no reason to worry
No reason to fuss
Just go on about your work now
And leave the driving to us

57. I know I already posted one, but I just thought of a great one:
"When you let me fall, grew my own wings, now I'm as tall as the sky.
When you let me drown, grew gills and fins, now I'm as deep as the sea.
When you let me die, my spirit's free, there's nothing challenging me."

from "Ring the Bells" by James

58. From Rilo Kiley's "A Better Son/Daughter"
'But the lows are so extreme
That the good seems fucking cheap
And it teases you for weeks in its absence...
But you'll fight and make it through
And you'll fake it if you have to
And you'll show up for work with a smile...'

Pretty much describes my outlook on life most of the time.

62. Blaze of Glory
The Alarm

It's funny how they shoot you down
When your hands are held up high
And you open up your heart and soul
But that's not enough for most.

I remember this much
There is nothing
You shouldn't speak of
If you got something to say
And there is no one
To be scared of
Just get them out of the way

Going out in a blaze of glory
My heart is open wide
You can take anything that you want from me
There is nothing left to hide

Going out in a blaze of glory
My hands are held up high
And i'm learning how to hit back
I'm learning how to fight

The law of the jungle says
You look after yourself
But i remember this much
I love as i be loved myself.

Don't forget what I told you now
When the question keeps on coming
It's "how much more can you take"
When they've ripped your clothes to pieces
"shouldn't you be gone by now"

But you keep on
Going out in a blaze of glory
Setting your sights for the sky.
They can offer you anything at all
But your dreams must not be sold.

Going out in a blaze of glory
No price is high enough
I'm fighting back with feeling
I'm fighting back with love.

When the nails are biting into your hands
And the cross is heavy on your heart
Now is the time to really make a stand
(going out, going out, going out)
My hands are held up high.

Going out in a blaze of glory
Going out, going out, going out
Going out
Going out in a blaze of glory
My heart is open wide
You can take anything that you want from me
But you cannot take my soul

Going out in a blaze of glory
My hands are held up high
I'm learning how to hit back
Yes i'm learning how to fight

Going out in a blaze of glory
Going out with my heart wide open
Going out with my hands held high

Going out in a blaze of glory
(repeat)

Fighting back with love
Fighting back with love!
No price is high enough
To take my soul, to take my soul
To take my soul

It's funny how they shoot you down
When your hands are held up high

64. Jesse Winchester's Do It
If the wheel is fixed
I would still take a chance
If we're treading on thin ice
Then we might as well dance
So I play the fool
But I can't sit still
Help me get this rock
To the top of this hill

Do it
'Til we're sick of it
Do it 'till you can't do it no more

I think of it more & more these days

66. Bruce Cockburn - "Pacing the Cage"
Sunset is an angel weeping
Holding out a bloody sword
No matter how I squint I cannot
Make out what it's pointing toward
Sometimes you feel like you live too long
Days drip slowly on the page
You catch yourself
Pacing the cage

I've proven who I am so many times
The magnetic strip's worn thin
And each time I was someone else
And every one was taken in
Powers chatter in high places
Stir up eddies in the dust of rage
Set me to pacing the cage

I never knew what you all wanted
So I gave you everything
All that I could pillage
All the spells that I could sing
It's as if the thing were written
In the constitution of the age
Sooner or later you'll wind up
Pacing the cage

Sometimes the best map will not guide you
You can't see what's round the bend
Sometimes the road leads through dark places
Sometimes the darkness is your friend
Today these eyes scan bleached-out land
For the coming of the outbound stage
Pacing the cage
Pacing the cage
