So apparently I'm now a peeping tom.
We adopted a dog from the shelter a few months back. He's a year old and he still makes some housebreaking mistakes, I think mostly from spending most of his life in a shelter. So we've been taking him out in the yard every few hours, and last night around about eleven it was my turn to take him out. Now he's afraid of the shadows in the back yard, and I can't blame him because they're pretty spooky shadows. So I was out there with him so he could feel more comfortable. Anyway, he starts doing his business and I avert my eyes, 'cause he doesn't like me watching him either. And by pure coincidence the exact point I avert my eyes to is the second floor bedroom window of our neighbor, the shapely young college student who happened to be undressing at that particular moment. Now the shade was drawn, so I only saw her silhouette, and, praise be to all that is holy, she didn't see me either. That didn't stop me from being highly embarassed, and the first thing I thought of... OK, the second thing. The first thing I thought of was is she undressing, or posing for a mud flap? But the second thing I was thinking was that I've seen enough cliched frat movies and teen sex comedies to know that something very bad, and funny to the audience, is about to happen to me. Like I'm going to get caught in my fly, or Marty McFly's maternal grandfather is going to hit me with his car. For whatever cosmic reason, the girl next door didn't see, and my wife didn't see, and the dog made it through the night without making a mess. So the moral of this story is: boy, that could have been worse.

2. Yeah, but I ain't gotta explain myself.
Imagine explaining that to a cop. "I swear, officer, I was just out walking my dog."

"Yeah right, pervert, explain it to the judge."

I've heard more plausible rationales for flying saucers.

10. Yeah, sounds crazy, don't it.
All in all, I'd have rather seen a UFO.

8. So are you going to take the dog out tonight?

Seriously though..try being a woman and going out to sit on the porch to enjoy the peace and nature sounds of the farm fields and experiencing very much the same thing you did..'cept it was a guy who was staying with his Mom across the road after his divorce. He had the curtains wide open, blinds up and the light was on.

I raced back into my house and thought I was going to die from embarassment.

Even though it was years and years ago, I still felt uncomfortable when I ran into him just a few weeks ago at a party.

9. It's my wifes turn.
I figure she can oogle the vixen next door, and then I'll never have to take the dog out at night anymore.
