can I say, "screw the Queen" and her visit?
Edited on Mon May-07-07 06:09 PM by NightWatcher
Who cares that a queen is coming to have dinner with our wannabe king.

We beat the British monarchy a little more than 200 years ago. Plus, there is a lot more news happening today than this stupid five course fancy schmancy dinner. A town (Greensburg Kansas) was detroyed by a tornado, but does that lead the news, NO.

3. What I find weird...
is the people who get upset over it and then cite the revolutionary war, and say something stupid about Thomas Jefferson or George Washington rolling over in their graves.

9. I agree
it seems absurd to believe that Jefferson or Washington would have a problem with the President of the US hosting a visit from a foreign head of state more than 200 years after independence.

5. It matters because she is a foreign head of state
the fact that you're anti monarchy doesn't change that fact.

Do I think that a lot of news coverage of it is necessary? No.

But neither do I think that 90% of the crap the US media covers is worth the airtime. But, I don't see you bitching about that. The Queen is just an easy target.

of whether it's the Queen or some blond missing in Aruba, or Paris Hilton thinking her jail sentence is unfair.

The US media doesn't WANT to cover the stuff that matters, the Queen isn't the problem, the corporate-owned MEDIA is the problem.

14. No thank you.
She's not at all my type.

I think her visit matters, because she came here to celebrate an American event - the Jamestown settlement. She's the Head of State of dozens of countries and she's a fairly harmless old lady. Why not be civil and welcoming?

The fact that Bush can't get his head out of rear, can't feel compassion for anyone, and can't do his job is nothing new. That's hardly the Queen's fault, is it? She just came here to see Virginia and the Kentucky derby.

Why blame the Queen for the media or the Bushes? If she weren't here, it would be something else. Paris Hilton in jail or Britney's wig or Bush dropping Barney for the nth time. . .
