You know it's not good news when your husband picks you up at
work and says, "Hurry up. The Dr. called and he wants to see you NOW. You have an appointment at 3:30."

Wonderful news. I am diabetic. VERY diabetic. My random blood sugar was approximately 5 times normal. Serious lifestyle changes are ahead.

1. My dad went through the same thing.
And if I'm not careful, I'm afraid I will as well.

Here are some good vibes.

5. Join the club!
Mine is up in the 300s a lot of the time, but it's also a bone of contention between my old doctor and me. I stopped taking my insulin because there was a problem with the insurance not covering the necessary amount I needed, and of course I got yelled at. However, since the asshole patronized me endlessly, I just wanted to give him the finger and be done with him. I have since gotten a new doctor who I think will work with me on my problem. According to my old doctor, the diabetes was why my back hurts and I have slowly been losing control of my legs. I am not sure what it is, but I am damned sure it isn't the diabetes.

7. Sorry to hear this
however I am glad that it was caught and was not discovered in another way. My daughter was recently diagnosed back in December, after going into complete Diabetic Ketoacidosis. The heavy breathing that she was doing we though was due to the virus that she had and that her asthma was acting up to the point where the inhaler was not working and we took her in to see if she needed to be put on the nebulizer for treatments. Her numbers would not even register on the testing equipment, stating she was in the 1000's. She was lethargic, not eating, and drinking like there was no tomorrow. We did not know the signs of a diabetic, as to where we do not have anyone in our family that is. We are glad that we took her in, she was close to going into a coma. She stayed in ICU for 2 days and Peds for 3 after that, and she still was not stabilized, but stabilized enough to come home. She is Type 1, and insulin dependant. Hopefully you are Type 2 and just need to adjust your diet. It is a major lifestyle change, but it is for the best. Please take care of yourself!
