Recommendations for groups to donate computers to?
We have several computers in our office that are being decommissioned and I need to get rid of them next week. There was a group that I gave a bunch to a year ago but they haven't returned my calls. I would rather they went to someplace useful rather than have them end up at a Salvation Army thrift store.

1. I would think schools would love them
How old are they? Are they desperately behind the times tech-wise?

2. Mostly P4s, a couple of dual processor PIII
one PII laptop and a big HP printer.
Schools around here won't take them.

3. I have had luck with schools...
Edited on Fri May-11-07 11:21 AM by Omphaloskepsis
The school wouldn't take them but they acted as a bridge between me and students that could use them. The Principal contacted teachers and then the teachers found kids that could use them and they called me. I would drop them off with the teacher. That way I didn't need to have contact with kids.

Also check to see if you have something like:

I used to volunteer with them and it was buckets of nerdy fun.

4. Call your local humane society or animal rescue(s)
If your area is anything like mine, they're all using antiquated crap that doesn't run any of the good adoption/tracking software. They NEVER upgrade, and they NEVER budget for new technology.
