car mechanic question, help!

i have a 91 buick straight (i think) 6cyl front wheel drive with 133k miles

I am new to the car and had them change the transaxle fluid and filter and it's been weird since (less than 100 miles so far)

the man did say the fluid was a little burnt smelling when we changed it. now it downshifts HARD at stop lights and sometimes i have to 'goose' the throttle to get it into 1st. both issues are intermittent

I do no freeway driving, rarely getting over 50mph on my trips into town

will it settle down you think, or do I need the tranny adjusted?

thanks in advance if you can help

here's a pic of the old girl...

2. I had a 79 Caprice
and my trans acted up. It ended up being the timing wheel, I did not know but some GM cars use a cardboard disk. I had to replace it with one from a 'vette.
Have you adjusted the timing wheel or chain?
