That's It! I've had it with damned meddling "do gooders" |
|
I sincerely hope that some Hollywood producer makes a movie where everybody, I mean EVERYBODY chain smokes cigarettes.

1. If they really wanted to stir shit up they'd make a kids movie but have every character smoke anyway |

But then, I hate the Hollywood system, so I'd enjoy the backlash.

3. Is it time to remake All the President's Men? |
|
The message is as relevant as ever but the people even smoked in elevators in that movie. And the good guys smoked just as much as the villians.

4. I don't understand why smokers are so freaked out when non smokers don't like their habit. |
|
Why are you so obsessed with this little round stick you suck on?

5. Because we're singled out |
|
There are other bad habits that have far worse consequences for society at large, we just happen to be the pinata of the moment.

And they are starting to be singled out, albeit on a much smaller scale. Duckie

10. And when are they going to ban car ads on TV? |
|
I guess I'll have to hold my breath and I can't do that very long because I'm one of those evil smokers

You seem like a nice person. I don't agree that anyone smokes, but hey, what you do to your lungs is your business. Duckie

14. No, your habit is singled out. |
|
And it is not the "pinata of the moment" as this fight has been in progress since the 1950s. And the reason we single out your habit is because of the singular destructive effects of smoking. Other causes of disease are insignificant by comparison. Only lately has obesity caught up with smoking and that is only because there are so many more fat people than smokers.

8. Maybe it has as much to do with people prying into my business |
|
and telling me what I can and can't do with my life, and now the goddamned do-gooders want a smoke free Hollywood. Well, that's not reality. People smoke, and there's nothing wrong with it being reflected on screen.
For your information, I didn't start smoking because I watched a few John Wayne movies.

13. So, you're against doing good? |
|
I suppose you oppose labeling food too. No one is saying people can't smoke in movies, although I can't see why anyone would want to. It is just that they will let you know first.
I really can't understand the hostility from actual liberals that this is generating. One of the cornerstones of the progressive movement is to fight causes of disease. For fifty years we have been battling the single largest cause of preventable disease in the country and now that the finish line is in sight, supposed progressives are wimping out. This is a classic little guy vesrs big, heartless industry fight. I can't believe so many so-called progressives have bought into the corporate sponsored personal freedom argument.

16. I could give you a crass answer to go along with your crass question. |
|
But I won't. I've been smoking for forty years, and I doubt I will give up smoking. I enjoy it. I cannot smoke in bars or restaurants anymore. Chalk one up for your team. I cannot smoke in outdoor stadiums anymore. Another victory for you. I don't smoke in my house or around my family. If I lived in certain communities in California I couldn't even smoke in my car. Tell me, what good exactly are do gooders doing by rating movies that people smoke in with an R?
If your answer is that it might keep youngsters from starting the habit, then I say that is the parents responsibility, not Hollywood's.
