Just found out my Mom will be in the hospital for Mothers Day
Tuesday she had hip replacement surgery, and she was supposed to be discharged yesterday. Now she'll be in the hospital for the weekend (at least), then possibly transferred to a different nearby hospital which specializes in the kind of physical therapy she needs.

To top that off it seems she tore a ligament in her knee.

I've called her everyday and she's in good spirits, but it still brings me down somewhat.

The option was available for me to take emergency leave. However since I'm stationed in the States any airline ticket I would have to pay for. Not only that, but later this month I'm going to visit her anyways (bought those tickets during the winter).

Presently feeling a combination of emotions.

1. I'd bet that she'd be happier having you visit when she's home than in the hospital
and calling her every day is making her feel better already.

7. That's great news.
She's now planning for your visit, if she's at all like my mother was.
:)

4. Thank you!
She's 76 and can't stand for more than 10 minutes at a time. Yesterday she got a cortisone shot. Last time she got one, she felt 40 years younger for 3 months! :woohoo:

8. I'm sorry, hon. We had a near-miss with my mom yesterday.
It's scary stuff.

10. What happened yesterday?
We had a scare 2 years ago; my Mom had a heart attack. At the time I was stationed in Italy and took emergency leave to come back home.

11. She's developed a "suspicious" cough and had to have an emergency mammogram
and chest X-ray. Everything came back normal, but because the cough sounded yucky, and because of other factors in her history, (long-term smoker/HRT user) I thought for sure the news would not be good.
