Any suggestions on where to get a good deal on tires?
Not Costco though, I know they sell tires pretty cheaply but they don't carry my car's size.

So far the best I've been able to do for a quality tire is $280 installed for four, $250 for off-brand tires. Unfortunately nobody ever runs a special on them that I know of since they aren't a popular size.

1. well, you eliminated my first suggestion

did you do the web search and all by model and year? i'm assuming you did.

my car has a weird-sized tire too, i did buy from Costco, but the only tire they carry in the size i needed ended up being $525 installed. it WAS a good price for that particular set of tires, but there are lower-priced good-quality tires out there in that size. the tires that come on it from the factory are cheaper than the ones i got at Costco.

do you have Big O and Discount Tire / America's Tire Company in Sacto? they didn't have the best price on the tires i bought, but they did also have lower-priced tires in my car's weird size.

good luck :-)

2. I hate to say this, but...
Mal-Wart.

Before I knew of their eee-villness, I got a set of T/As there for $280. And, yeah, that included mounting and balancing. For 225-60R 14s. Not a small tire.

But, yeah — if you've got a Big O, go there.

5. I called big O, they have the low price on the cheapies, and $310 for good tires.
I need some 175-70R 14's. It's a funny size, even the dealer has to order them in.

4. Check the prices at tirerack.com, then call around.
I've found that they have the best prices, but it sounds like you need them today.

7. Nevermind. Found a deal at Les Schwab.
If I'm lucky, maybe they're running the "Free meat!" promo. :eyes:

Yes, they really do that. *sigh*

10. I get mine at Goodyear, at a locally owned place
Good people there, capable, and do an excellent job.

As to "deals", I have no idea how their prices compare to anywhere else, but I know that they'll put the things on correctly, and they rotate my tires for free every 6000 miles.

12. Yes to GOODYEAR, and you get what you pay for
You may pay a little more for Goodyear but they have a good warranty and you do get free rotation. I've used them for 35 years. The tires I have on my truck now have 50,000 miles and they look brand new; very little tread wear.

13. With tires, you get what you *look* for
All the information's on the sidewall of every tire, as required by the Department of Transportation. Go here and scroll down to Uniform Tire Quality Grading System (UTQGS). It'll tell you all you need to know.

There're only a few tire manufacturers in the U.S. (someone in the business once told me it's five, but that was a long time ago), so off-brand tires may well be made by Firestone, Goodyear, et al.

15. 280 for 4 is not bad
best I could do around here is $140 for 2. I ended up going to a local guy who doesn't make much on the tires but compensates on the other service work he does.

16. I got a set of Firestones put on for $216
Went over to the Les Schwab by my house. They didn't have the tires in the ad, which were some cheap import brand I've never heard of before (Nanking) so they sent me over to the store in Elk Grove. They had them, but they also had some Firestones that they weren't moving (as I mentioned, my car takes a funny size) and they were willing to sell them at the same price. Not bad considering the dealer had quoted me $360 for the same tires and would have had to order them in.

My reputation for black belt shopfu remains intact. :)
