"Help desk" fiascoes.. (to be fair, mine have all been with Dell) |
|
Edited on Mon May-14-07 04:13 AM by SoCalDem
The best one was when all of a sudden, my keyboard quit working..( my laptop)
I'm typing away (on DU) and all of a sudden I looked up and it had quit in mid-sentence..
I call Dell (I have the extended warranty that covers "service"..)
A nice young woman named Juanita answers...after about 45 minutes playing phone-robot- 20 Questions...and using a magnifying glass, while trying to read the serial number on the bottom of the back of the case..
During the telephonic scavenger hunt, I was asked to press this and press that and was only disconnected twice..(each time I had to repeat the drill)..
Anyway Juanita (who knew that Juanita was a popular name in Bangladesh?:).) asked me the same stuff that the "phone robot" had had already asked me at least twice, but since I kind of needed the keyboard, I gave her the info.
"Okay, she said.. now I want you to be typing xxxxxxxx...xxx.x...x.x...x..xx into the browser window, and then hit enter"..
Helllllooooooooo.. the KEYBOARD is not WORKING...
this sort of hijinks continued until, finally I demanded to speak to a supervisor who figured out that I could not type ANYTHING..
They sent a guy out the next day who replaced the keyboard..
2 weeks later the "M" key quit working..
rinse & repeat :)

2. I called for help with my wireless router |

No, not the woodworking kind.
I assumed I was reaching India, but it could have been Bangladesh. The first three calls were a waste, because the person on the other end couldn't hear me. I could hear them just fine. By the fourth call, I reached a guy who could hear me just fine, but was thrown for a loop as soon as I said "Linux". Apparently there was no word for Linux in his language. He told me to connect the router to a PC that runs Windows, and call him back.
Sheesh!
