Masontown Abuzz Over Joe Hardy's Young Bride

Sunday, May 13, 2007

By Cristina Rouvalis, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Tony Tye, Post-Gazette
Kristin Georgi and Joe Hardy,
photographed at a recent social
event, were married in Las Vegas.

MASONTOWN -- The new Mr. and Mrs. Hardy aren't uttering a peep.

But all over this tiny town and beyond, people are buzzing about Kristin Georgi, the 22-year-old hometown girl who married Joe Hardy, the 84-year-old lumber magnate, in Las Vegas this month.

Inside Adolph's Tavern, a narrow slice of a bar on Main Street, the Bud Light is flowing -- as are the debates about the 62-year age difference between bride and groom.

1. Have to say...

the dude looks great for 84.

Good for them. It's the Anna Nicole effect: he's not likely a fool and so why not?

And, given that the odds are rather in favor of him leaving this mortal coil before she does, I've got a search image for my future sugar mama, younger than me though the widow may be. :D

3. See you on E, Anna Nicole Jr.
Hot 22 year old blonds are the reward for making shitloads of money. Anybody can afford a Corvette, only a few can afford a hot blond.

10. Kind of like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, then?
Seriously, I've got no bone in my body that allows me to get worked up about someone else's marriage. More power to both of them. Neither one is being fooled.

You know, at the grand old age of 54, I can't picture being married to some CHILD of 22. Boring.

27. Yes, he did. And he was married to wife number 1 for 50 years!
Then he left her for a 26-year old, by whom he had two kids, then they divorced. Now he's down to 22-year olds. Wonder if the next one will at least be 18?

29. Get this: his young ex-wife was attacked by her new husband and step-son!
Oh dear, you cannot make this stuff up:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/wtae/20070515/lo_wtae/13325477;_ylt=AllnbBiM6B1_uN.fD3LboFIE1vAI

<snip>
While 84 Lumber founder Joe Hardy is enjoying the first few weeks of marriage to his 22-year-old bride, his ex-wife was attacked at her Westmoreland County chateau.

Police said Debra Hardy's new husband, Paul Ucman, is charged with attacking her.

Rostraver police said Hardy dialed 911 after allegedly being attacked by Ucman and her stepson.

Hardy said the two rammed their cars into hers, and then attacked her with a frying pan.
<snip>

And get this:

"Hardy wasn't injured. According to her spokesman, the two plan to work things out."

Well, that's nice. Be sure to stay with the guy who, along with his son, attacked you with two vehicles and a frying pan. :eyes:

22. How can she do it?
That's my question.

When I was her age, I couldn't stand the thought of that guy in any physical capacity whatsoever. Money or not.

Some things just go against the laws of nature, and so there must be another motive, and the suppression of one's true feelings.

23. Why should there be a law against it?
What possible difference does it make to you who someone else marries? You know what that sounds like? It sounds like the people who say that gays shouldn't be allowed to marry - "there should be a law against that" - because they seem to think that someone else's marriage is somehow their business.

Fuck that.

I assume you think she married him for his money. What if she did? Why is that such a crime? Marriage, as I've said time and again, is not about love - it's about money. People may say they're marrying because they love each other and I'm sure they mean that but you can love each other without being married.

No, legal marriage has to do with property rights and the legitimacy of children. It always has. The idea of marrying for romantic love is a relatively modern concept and the actual legality of it has nothing to do with that. It's a business contract. And someone else's business contract is none of my business.

They're both of the same species, they're both adults and they're both consenting. As for as I'm concerned, what they do and why they do it is none of my business.
