My son fell and hit his head on the toilet tonight... |
|
When I first picked him up, he looked like he had made a large dent in his forehead. Now he's got a HUGE goose-egg. He's sleeping now but I feel the urge to check on him every five minutes so now I can't sleep. And judging from the horrendous next few days I have ahead of me, I really can't afford to be losing sleep but I can't help myself.
Being a mom to a rambunctious little boy is really hard at these times.

One of my ex's fell and hit her head like that and got one of those goose-eggs and they made me wake her up like every 45 minutes that night (she'd gone to the emergency room) because she had a concussion and apparently they were afraid she might slip into a coma. Poor kid, it must have scared him to death.

A bonk on the head can sometimes be a bad thing. Sorry to say that; but losing sleep to watch over him is something I think is a good thing.
Hope he's okay.

3. He seems to be fine for now... |
|
He only cried for less than a minute and was really cooperative when I was putting ice on it. He then got up and told me he was ready to go to his room and play with his trucks so I let him go. He was in his bed playing normally for quite a while until he went to sleep.
I know bumps on the head are common for kids at this age but he's never been one to fall very often so this isn't very normal for me. My husband is a nurse (a pediatric nurse) so he was able to keep me pretty much at ease for a while but now that he's sleeping, I'm a nervous wreck.

5. That's good that your husband is a pediatric nurse. |
|
The only thing I would add is that if you see your son acting in a way he doesn't normally act, please, PLEASE, take him to the doc or the ER to get looked at.
Yeah, I think kids are really resilient, but having said that, we do still need pay attention to them.

4. Oh, and I just checked on him again.. |
|
And when I move his arms a little, he stirs and stretches a little so we're doing okay for now.

7. Boys are a blessing and a curse. |
|
Just my experience. My daughter was nimble and watching everyone. My son was a bumbling dufus. Going full blast into anything that caught his attention. My daughter was more high energy, but my son was hell to watch. Quiet, affectionate, and never thinking ahead. Between the thought and the action was a split second. Stumbling over his feet all the way.
