Women’s clothing serve as “stumbling blocks” on the road to purity say Christian teen site
Article: http://www.ctnow.com/custom/nmm/hartfordadvocate/hce-hta-0329-ht14upfrontblurb14.artmar29,0,488559.story?coll=hce-headlines-%27%c3%83%83%83%83%83%83%83%83%83%83%83%83%83%83%83%83%83%83%83%83%83%83%82%A0

The Christian Web site “Rebelution,” which bills itself as “a teenage rebellion against low expectations,” has released the results of its Modesty Survey, in which 1,600 guys (mostly in their late teens or early 20s) discussed those articles of women’s clothing that serve as “stumbling blocks” on the road to purity.

Forty-seven percent of the young men agreed that shirts with words on them are best avoided since they draw too much attention to the bust area. And with modesty, as in porn, size (or thickness) matters: 48.3 percent of respondents said girls should avoid wearing clothes made of thin material, since it tends to be “clingy.” Over 80 percent agreed that bikinis are always immodest, and most found such swimsuits problematic even under a T-shirt. One 18-year-old explained the problem thusly: “Water is wet. Things in water get wet. Wet things stick. Wet clothes stick to your body.”

1. I took a look at the site - absolutely none of those things are stumbling blocks for me!
I'm gay, that might be one of the reasons! Give me a big man in jeans, a t-shirt, and big black boots and I melt, that's not a stumbling block either.

2. The only "stumbling blocks" I've encountered with women's clothing are...
bra hooks that won't come loose.

However it wasn't exactly the "road to purity" I was on at the time.

3. Hmmm... so it's the female's fault/responsibility that the guys can't control themselves?
What a big surprise.

9. Stop me before I ogle again!
Help! I'm at the mercy of my hormones. As a reversal of a misogynist argument against a woman president: at least women are sane for 25 days per month. If you follow this whole modesty-for-women train of though, men are in testosterone rage every day.

27. Even more hilarious: it's the fault of the *clothing*.
When those Daisy Dukes start whispering obscenities, it takes a strong/sane man to ignore them.

28. seriously...what isn't a stumbling block for an 18 year old male?
18 year old guys are perpetually horny and there isn't a single thing a woman can do to stop that. I think some Christians won't be happy until we dress in Burqas and resume the practice of female circumcision

33. I still love the way my gym coach/sex ed teacher explained it to us
We're sitting in class in 9th grade, and he was taking questions out of the question box he had outside his door. One of them asked "what gives a guy an erection?"

His answer?

"EVERYTHING! Guys can be walking along and for no reason, BAM!, there's an erection."

Then he points to the door and yells "Doorknobs can give a guy an erection!"

The rest of my high school life was filled with kids running around pointing at doorknobs and laughing uncontrollably. He was a great teacher :)

39. Isn't that incredible. They want the men to take "leadership" in the family
but yet they also let men use the cop out that their bad behavior is the fault of women...

GRRRRR

12. When I saw your quote
it was before I read the whole article. I had thought it meant bending down - as in leaning forward towards the "helpless" tempted male so he could possibly (gasp) get a glimpse of cleavage... but, it was just the opposite, and was kneeling so they didn't get the girl's butt in their faces. Those poor, helpless guys, so many temptations all around them, it's a wonder they can do anything at all.

14. Ah
I had originally thought "kneel down" also meant to assume a submissive position. But, leave it to a girl to insert more temptation into merely kneeling down.

Guys are telling women how to dress so that they (the guys) won't be led to temptation?

Tell you what, I'm led to temptation to sign their idiotic petition, Amanda Hugginkiss.

8. Purity is way overrated.
Life is about getting ones hands dirty in all aspects of life. Why should sexuality be different. These religions have all kinds of rules about what one cannot do. Frankly, life is about what one can do.

Actually, it is not words so much that draw attention to the bust area as it is boobs. Yes, women in "clingy" things are delightful to behold. So what? There's nothing wrong with beholding. It does not need to lead to anything else and in almost every case it does not.

That Bikini can be really tough on my Purity, almost as bad as Nylon/Lycra Panties.

Wrap that stuff around my ...ahem... and my purity is pretty much lost.

18. and, to tell you the truth...
I wouldn't even say "reasonably attractive" - when I was that age, I was painfully shy. So, if any girl around my age even winked in my general direction, I probably would have been aroused and at the mercy of my impure thoughts.

21. Didn't O'Reilly say that once?
A woman that was in the wrong section of town at the wrong time had gotten raped & murdered and he basically blamed her for being there and dressing too provocatively.

Now, it was not the brightest of moves to be where she was, but nobody deserves to be raped and/or murdered.

Edited on Tue May-15-07 06:09 PM by Shell Beau
my version of Christianity has nothing to do with what I wear. Wear what makes you comfortable and makes you feel good about yourself. Is it really that hard? I wear t-shirts with letters on them, I must be asking for men to look at my boobs. :eyes:
