Man Mugged By Flock Of Geese
<snip>

A STUDENT told yesterday how he lost his mobile phone after being “mugged” by an angry flock of GEESE.

Sam Rozati, 23, was attacked by four birds as he walked past their nest.

They pecked so hard he dropped his phone.

Then one bird grabbed the mobile and disappeared into the undergrowth in Colchester, Essex.

Final-year law student Sam said: “They flew over and started biting my hand until I dropped the phone. I had to move away for my safety.”

His attempts to find his phone have failed — as it is set on silent.

He said: “I’d never been mugged by anyone before, but now I’ve been mugged by geese.

“I go the long way round to go home now.”

1. Not uncommon
This happens in MI occasionally. Usually, someone calls MI Department of Natural Resources and they come out and move the nest away from the walkway. Canada Geese get agressive when there are eggs or hatchlings.

Other than that, all they do is leave "little hazards" on the putting greens.

:)

4. Any farmer will tell you
that geese, raised from goslings, will be better (and nastier) watchdogs than dogs. They bite, they beat you with their wings, they spit at you and hiss. And they HURT when they bite and beat.

Single family animals, they never accept outsiders.

5. I'll vouch for that.
My grandfather had a couple of 'em who'd run off anybody they didn't recognize. Not only can they be aggressive, but they also tend to freak out anybody who's not accustomed to birds--which is a sort of positive addition to the whole watchdog thing.

6. My son once got mobbed by a flock of geese
We lived on a farm. One day when he was about 5, he had some popcorn in a cardboard container. And he made the mistake of throwing some for the geese.

Those nasty vermin mobbed him. I hate to say it, but it was actually a bit comical because he just turned and ran. His arm were pumping up and down and every time they'd pump up, more popcorn would fly out and the geese would get even more determined to catch him. Poor kid.

He escaped unscathed but his evil father teased him about it unmercifully. Until the day he got cornered by the goat and had to climb onto the hood of a pickup truck to escape.

Anyone who thinks the country is safer than the city has never faced down a pissed-off goat. :P

7. LOL---oh, your poor son. Here's another story for ya....
My late (and much missed) grandfather--the one I mentioned above with the watch geese--also kept some goats (tiny farm, but he had chickens, ducks, goats, a mule--which he used to plow, because he refused to use the tractor my uncle brought him--the two geese, a couple of "seasonal" pigs and one cow).

Anyway, one of the three goats was a rather aggressive male, who interpreted a turned back as a big, fat target and an invitation to butt. My church-going grandfather would curse a blue streak at that goat, and the two just hated each other. Apparently the goat charged him one time too many, because I'll never forget driving up to the house for a visit, looking out at the barn behind the house and seeing a big, gray goatskin tacked up on the side for tanning. Nearly killed myself laughing, because I didn't even have to ask what happened.
