Sigh, the IRS lost my tax return... |
|
It's been 9 weeks since I filed my federal return, so I called them today. Apparently, I never filed (never mind the certified mail receipt) and have to resend everything. The agent says I shouldn't have trouble getting my refund from a "late" filing, so here's hoping.
Gotta love the efficiency.

1. Usually there's no big deal if you're owed a refund. |
|
You could intentionally not file for four months just by filing an automatic extension schedule and estimating the size of your refund. Within that window of time it matters only if you owe money. The upside of sending it in now is that they should process it rather quickly. I've filed extensions myself because of missing paperwork and it worked out that way for me.
