Well, I just had to explain to a three year old that they killed a baby duck.... |
|
I was watching some kids at my sisters house. I went inside to get the kids ice cream and came out to find a dead duck in the pond. One of the kids thought it was cute when it would dunk its head in the water. The kid decided to help make more cute and press and hold the duck to the bottom of the pond. It killed the duck. The ducks are only a few weeks old.. My sister got them yesterday.
I don't want to babysit anymore.

At least the duck was killed. Poor little duckling.
My coworker's toddler loved his brother's hamster into a not-quite dead state. Coworker didn't have the nerve to put it out of its misery, so she took the twitching furster to the vet for euthanizing.

4. The shitty part was that... |
|
When the older kids came over (5 to 8 years old) they tried to explain to the young one what had happened. This fucked up my plan of calling it a "long sleep." I was hoping the parents of the kid would show up before I had to explain death.

8. Dude, the long sleep lie is not a good idea anyway |
|
Then you put the fear of death into the kid when they are trying to go to sleep.

9. I didn't have time to Google.... |
|
I wish the cat would have had her kittens instead. That is easy to explain.

6. Aww! How sad! And little kids sometimes don't know that they |
|
are hurting animals. Small kids and animals isn't always a good idea! x(

7. Normally I wouldn't have let the kids play with them. |
|
But they were playing with them when my sister left me with the kids. I thought it would be OK.
My sister is OK with what happened. Me, not so much.

10. If I were to let small kids play with such vulnerable animals, I would |

have to watch them. I used to try to spoon feed our small kittens milk when I was small. I thought I was doing good! I never actually hurt any of them, but it just shows how kids think! I am sorry this happened. It is never easy explaining any type of death to a child.
And I just remembered another incident when I thought I would put my pet baby duck on the trampoline to teach it to fly. I didn't hurt it nor did it learn to fly, but just another example!
