It looks like the stars fell from the sky and landed in our front gardens. |
|
Mrs R and I have both been on a frenzy of buying those solar LED walkway lights, now that they've gotten down to five bucks each.
We have about 30 of them in the four front gardens now, and it's great to just go out and look at them when it gets good and dark. Got our own fairyland right out front, we do.

1. Plus, you can spell out your message to flying saucers on the cheap |
|
Those things are nice, good on ya. Careful the neighborhood kids don't mess with them. :hi:

I just love seeing them light up, and knowing they're doing it with free energy.

10. And they're CHEAP these days. Just pull out the NiCads (and dispose of them properly) |
|
and replace them with NiMh batteries, if you want to get that extra ecological Karma.

4. Which ones do you have? |
|
I'd like to install some myself, but all the solar LED lights I've seen either cast an orange/amber light (blech), or they hardly cast any light at all. How are yours working?
BTW, my backyard/flower garden illumination is accomplished with tiki torches right now. I love the ambiance, but I'm sick of the smelly fuel and burns.

8. We have both the yellow and white ones. The white ones tend to only have one LED in them, |
|
so they aren't as bright. The trick to to open them up and put a sheet of aluminum foil at the top of the inside to act as a reflector; there's usually a piece of black cardboard or plastic covering the battery and electronics, which doesn't help amplify what light there is.
But hey, at four or five bucks apiece in boxes of four or more, who cares if they're not too bright. Just put more of them out! Next, we're going to outline the sidewalk that goes around the side of the house to my office door, and then a dozen or so along the top of the deck railings.
Hey, pretty soon I'll be able to read outside at night without flipping a switch!

5. I was expecting you to say your lawn was covered in 'craters' because a dog had gotten to it. |
|
The lights sound much nicer.

12. We got them at Benny's and Ocean State Job lot, two local stores, but I've seen |
|
them in Home Depot and Lowe's advertisements for about the same prices, maybe even less.

We haven't put ours out yet. We put them away for the winter. I like that they are not a bright, blinding light. Perfect in the gardens, and the ecological benefits are a huge bonus.
