A few reader's comments on Falwell from MSNBC
This one is from a Republican, I wanted to post it first:

05/15/07 01:23 PM For all you morons who think it's "dirty liberals" celebrating the death of the man, I am pleased to you inform you that this is one Republican who is glad to see that fat bastard go. Get a grip on reality you redneck idiots - Falwell is a perfect example of what's wrong with this country, and the fact that you would call him a "great American" and blather on about him being a man of God shows just how bad his infection into the decliniing IQ of this country has been.
I'm glad he's gone - maybe now the Republican party can get its head out of the Moral Majority's butt. Falwell declared AIDS as God's punishment against gays - as if a disease has a sexual preference; declared anti-Semitic remarks as Gospel despite the fact that Jesus was a Jew; spread intolerance and hate and masked it as "God's work".
That is not a great American - oh wait, in this day and age that's what you morons want to emulate? Yeah, he's a great American to you - now get out of my country and go worship some other mindless minions of hatred. I hear Al Qaida has room for some idiot followers.

05/15/07 12:46 PM bIzbub6,
You are entitled to your own opinion. I met the man. I talked with him. I don't think he's a true Christian anymore than the Pope is Jewish. That is based on my personal experiences with him. At least I have that, whereas most of the posters haven't even met the man, much less conversed with him. His view of God was totally warped, IMHO, and he did not practice the core tennants of Christianity that he was supposed to be teaching to others.

05/15/07 01:26 PM <I can actually see how liberals are so overjoyed...because it's exactly the same way I'm going to feel come Michael Moore's inevitable heart failure.>

Anyone who think this is a "liberal" person's issue to rejoice about - I'll take that word liberal to mean "person with more than one functioning neuron". How long has it been since you've been in a persistent vegetative state?

05/15/07 01:35 PM Condemning that which is wrong and trying to correct those that do wrong is not hate, it is love.
You're talking about JERRY Falwell, right? The one who said a children's character was gay? The one who said AIDS was punishment from God. The one who blamed Katrina on the homosexuals and said it was another of God's punishements? THAT Jerry Falwell was the one who was "loving" by blaming one group of people for the world's ills? Sure did sound like hate to me, and about 10,000,000,000,000 other people.

05/15/07 01:37 PM Falwell supported APARTHEID!!!! APARTHEID.... What is Holy about that? Why do you Christians support people who want apartheid on the same continent where Christianity was born? I just don't get some white, Christians...
Seriously, White American Christians are some of the most hateful people the planet HAS EVER KNOWN... And Falwell's teachings and congregation size PROVES that fact. I don't wish him dead, not in the least but I surely won't miss his ideals.

05/15/07 05:02 PM Jerry Falwell is to Christianity, what the Taliban are to Islam. He promoted false, evil teachings that were antethetical to the true teachings of Jesus. He did more to alienate mankind from the true teachings of Jesus than any other human being. He was a wolf in sheeps clothing. He was Satan.
Those that admire him, detest the real Jesus, and worship the devil. It really is that simple. Jesus taught all men are equal sinners before God. He taught love and forgiveness. He taught you not to judge your fellow man, lest you be judged by God, Almighty. The man who knows God, but does not fear His judgment is a fool. Jesus taught your salvation comes from loving your fellow man, not judging him, and not believing he died for your sins. Then again, what do I know? I am just a poor Jewish carpenter.

This is just a sample of the 289 messages (at last count). The negatives FAR out number his defenders. I found that to be very interesting. Perhaps its just the site. I might find different responses on FOX! But I wont go there. Here's the link to the rest: http://boards.msn.com/MSNBCboards/thread.aspx?threadid=285897

1. a good read, cannikin
thanks for posting it. Too many commentators are mentioning his single statement about 9-11, if even that, on the way to eulogizing him as a towering figure

all I will say here is that he cast an enormous shadow
