Dave Mustaine has completely lost it!
As a hardcore metal fan I was hoping that Dave could escape the clutches of ultra conservatism, but alas, he can join Alice Cooper and others in the rock biz that are complete and utter idiots when it comes to politics. It's too bad because the latest album, United Abominations, is one of Megadeth's best in years musically. Lyrically, it belongs on Rush Limbaugh's show or on Faux. Man, how disappointed I am with him. Time to listen to Rio Grande Blood by Ministry now to cleanse myself of the freeper metal. Ironically, nost freepers will listen to the music and think its satanic or something without listening to the disgusting lyrics.

1. I'll take Ministry over Megadeath any day.
Yeah, Mustaine et al are quite talented. I've liked a lot of their stuff. A liberal finding out Mustaine is Nugent-lite is like being a homophobic Priest fan and finding out Halford is gay.

17. Absolutely not true
Mustaine used to be a hardcore Dem. He hosted the Dem Convention for MTV in 1992. His turn towards the GOP is nothing like the leather-chap and leather hat wearing Halford finally coming out. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

If you've listened and/or read any of his lyrics up until The System Has Failed, you'd know better.

Back in the 80s, the Priest concert I saw was still the loudest concert I have ever been to. I couldn't hear for days after that. They RAWK to this day!

3. Haven't heard UA but no doubt Megadeth has one of the
most impressive catalogues of music over the past 25 years. They've put out better shit than Metallica for 20 years.

Really too bad about Dave's politics. But I still listen to Coop and the Nuge so why not Megadeth. And sorry to say, i've known some of the people who just cannot accept that Rob Halford is gay.

8. It looks like mosty just one song
Looking at the entire album it seems to be more anti-war.

http://www.metrolyrics.com/united-abominations-album-megadeth.html

Of course the song United Abominations is a flat out attack on the UN. Some is valid but like you say can easily be taken out of context by the right wing UN haters.

http://www.metrolyrics.com/united-abominations-lyrics-megadeth.html

Less than five miles from Ground Zero sits an international hotbed, the United "Abominations" as it were. Created to prevent wars and promote peace, it failed to address the most dangerous threats facing the world.

In a mire of hypocrisy, bribes, kickbacks, and corruption, the U.N. enables terrorism, and ignores sex crimes by its peacekeepers. The U.N. is where our so-called allies undermine us, and we pay 22% of their tab to host our enemies here at home.

Ambassadors from dirt-poor countries enjoy luxurious, tax-free Manhattan lifestyles, turning children into sex-slaves and enjoy Diplomatic immunity. It's a complete and utter disgrace, a blot on the face of humanity, and they get away with it.

Poverty in their kitchens
Held hostage by oil-for-food
Yet their own plates are full off the fat of their lands
There's no blood on their hands, right Kojo?
They promised to tell the truth
Without leaving a fingerprint, but
They will lose the U.N. one way or another
The victim, I fear will be us, sisters and brothers
.........

Reading through some of his old interviews. What a POS.

Dave Mustaine: "Yeah you've got Tom Morello from AUDIOSLAVE walking around talking about freeing the people in South America while he is walking around in his fucking Gucci silk suits. Spare me, what do you know about that? Talk about hypocrisy. Natalie Maines from the DIXIE CHICKS said that she is ashamed to be from the state of Texas; well I'm ashamed that you are fucking from America. I saw her at a Nashville Predators game, talk about somebody who needs to go on a diet. I don't know if she was pregnant at the time, but she sure looked it. But the fact is unless you are a politician, shut up. What do they know about politics? (With a southern accent) Oh well I'm gonna vote for a guy that gonna raise taxes on the fucking rich. You stupid twat. You are in the upper income bracket in America, you are gonna get taxed. And when small business owners get taxed, jobs are lost. How stupid is that? You don’t know what the fuck you are talking about, shut up.

This is another Megadeth “anti-system” album, right? About how you feel on what’s going on in the world. So, let’s have it in spoken words instead of lyrics – how do you feel about what went on in Iraq?

It needed to happen. The Americans went in there to liberate Iraq. A lot of people don’t think they were being liberated because France didn’t join in, Germany didn’t join in and neither did Russia. The reason they didn’t join in was because they had billions of dollars in stake with building the oil fields in the North of Iraq. The reason Russia, Germany and France supported us when we went into Afghanistan was because Afghanistan is a shit-hole. The people I believe are probably very lovely people - I’ve never met any Afghanis but, you know, Russia wasn’t making billion dollar oil fields up there. Afghanistan was known for its poppy production which results in heroin. Afghanistan is renowned for its hashish. If Germany, France and Russia went into Iraq, public opinion would be different. People in the music business, in America, are talking bad about Bush…you know what? Shut the fuck up! You’re a musician; you don’t know a thing about running a country! If there would have been a better man to run the States right now, we would have picked him, it’s a democratic process. There are a couple of guys who run for office, everybody picks him, he goes to the next level. Shut up, he’s the fucking president! There’s gonna be an election, if you don’t like him go for the other guy. Don’t sit back there and just piss and moan. I see all these guys like Michael Moore going off and I’m like “dude, you don’t have a fucking idea about what you’re talking about”.

You don’t like Michael Moore?

I have no idea who he is. Like “what are you doing?”, we’ve got young men and women over at Iraq by now sacrificing their lives every day because they love their country and their doing what their country told them to do. It’s not their fault, it’s not their fault we’re at war. And I don’t think that the spirit of the Greek people would wanna watch one American die needlessly. I don’t think that’s how you guys are over here.

Well, we don’t want to see anyone die actually.

Right. And I think that because there’s so much bullshit going on with self-advancement in America that people are trying to make what Bush is doing look bad. Now, am I a republican? No. Am I an American? Yeah. Do I consider myself to be patriotic? Yes. Do I think the war with Iraq was wrong? No! Saddam Hussein was a terrorist. He was a dictator and he tortured people.

Eleni: So are you going to vote for Bush in November?

I don’t know but I can tell you right now I’m not voting for Kerry. You know, one of the other things they have is “fill” and “blank” and you can write in anyone you want; maybe I’ll write my own name in!

really right wing. None of the other album lyrics are like that, Megadeth is my favorite rock band with pretty liberal-seeming lyrics.

19. Fuck Dave Mustaine
Here's my beef against him. Years ago my friend got third row seats to a Megadeth concert and he was ecstatic. Half way through the concert in the middle of a song my friend throws a joint up on stage. Dave stops in the middle of the song, tells the band to quit playing, picks up the joint, and says, "Fuck you, mother fucker! I don't do this shit! Get this asshole out of here!" Security picked him up and threw him out of the venue.

I know Dave's had his problems with drugs, but that is a real asshole move to stop a concert and kick a fan out over a joint.

28. Heroin is a hell of a drug.
To be honest, Megadeth really only made one great album, one good album and a bunch of mediocre to below-average ones with a good song or two stuck on each.

Slayer since 1986 and even now has so vaulted past all the 80s-90s Speed Metal "Big Four" in terms of songwriting, integrity and production it's not even funny. Anthrax has been putting out SO much uninteresting material since Sound of White Noise and can't keep a stable line-up to save their life and Metallica . . . damn. They released Smell the Glove (although wouldn't that be insulting Spinal Tap?) and has been nearly a two-decade joke, with Jame$ and his "Rivers Cuomo at 55" get-up, Lar$ and his tin-pot snare and that milquetoast guitarist who just seems like he's along for the ride. I was listening to "Call to Khtulu" and "Damage, Inc." on the way to her roller derby practice last night and I'm thinking "how did this band just SUCK so quickly?"

Reading that bullshit above, I can picture him saying it in his "Sweating Bullets" vocal style and think "Ha ha . .. muppet."

Great material....Megadeth has never been one of "must listen to bands" and compared to some of the great new metal out plus some old groups like Slayer still churning out quality stuff, I won't miss Megadeth but his rant on the UN is just ridiculous. He's been watching Faux far too long.

earn the band the name Megadeth. It's too good for what they're putting out now. I also was a teenage New Jersey metalhead guitar-wannabe many years back, cut school the day Rust In Peace came out. Metallica was easy stuff to play, Megadeth took some WORK! Anyway, Rust In Peace was where they ended in my books. I think it's an often overlooked CD.

30. Dave MustStayIn
Cuz the band would be even crappier,if possible, without him. They haven't done anything I like since So Far,So Good,So What?...and even that was a piss poor follow up to Peace Sells and Killing Is My Business.

I've read a bunch of interviews with him (including one I still have on record right after he got booted from Metallica..he referred to Kill 'Em All as Slow 'Em All..which was kinda funny,I have to admit).Overall he's a few sandwiches short of a picnic,to say the least. Not one of music's deep thinkers. When Glen Benton makes more sense than you you're in big fucking trouble.

I'd rather listen to Ministry's worst CD then Megadeth's best one.And Rio Grande Blood is a straight for the jugular attack on Bush...it's tough to not love it.Dave Sustain would need a million volts juiced through him to reach that kind of righteous anger and passion.

Edited on Fri May-18-07 08:14 PM by Zodiak Ironfist
They made a major move to commercial songwriting, and Dave's voice was always typical of guitar virtuosos....weak and uninteresting. Moreso in the latter years. Up until that album, the band produced some very good material. Peace Sells and Rust in Peace are classics that are indispensible in my collection.

Too bad about all of this right-wing Mustaine conversion. Typical for more of the old guard to disappoint me. Metallica had already done that in the 1990's.

No big deal....I've been listening to the likes of Lamb of God and Arch Enemy anyways.

the first single from the album, "A Tout Le Monde (Set Me Free)", is a cover of a frickin' MEGADETH SONG!
That doesn't say much about Mustaine's confidence in the rest of the material on "United Abominations". IMO Megadeth has been on a downward spiral ever since the release of "Cryptic Writings".
