I FINALLY start driver's ed at the end of the month. |
|
I've been legally able to take it for 8 months now. As it is, I won't be able to send away for my license until I'm 16-and-a-half, since Maine has the whole "must have permit for 6 months" thing going on. And then when you get your license, there's 6 months of "probation"--no driving late at night, no driving with under-18s, etc.
But still. A year from now I could be licensed to--drive?
:wtf:

4. I'd better come home soon and get in one more safe visit before you hit the road. |

I'll bet that you want to get a license just so you can drive yourself to the mall and hang out with your pals. You just strike me as that kind of girl.

8. Congrats! And please be careful! |
|
I'm 20 - we have to have our permits for a year, and have limitations on how late we can drive until we're 18.
But I do ask you to be careful. I consider myself a very good driver (I've never had a speeding ticket; I've only been in one accident and it was a very minor fender-bender, 3 weeks after I got my license) but it's so easy to be distracted while you're on the road. Don't use your phone while driving, and certainly no text messaging! I've been reading that other thread where people are talking about kids they knew who died - a lot of them died as a result of auto accidents.

14. I'll certainly be cautious. |
|
I hate the phone and have never received a text message in my life--my trouble will come from my music. Right now I have the compulsion to change the radio station whenever a commercial/song I don't like comes on. Sometimes I change the stations jsut because I'm worried about what I'm "missing" on other stations.

15. When I was little, I always wondered how blinkers knew to come on. |
|
It took me until I was 6 or 7 to realize that the driver TURNS the blinkers manually on and off.

there are people who have been driving for years, who seem to think their blinkers know when to come on. :eyes: That's the only reason I can think of they don't use 'em...
Happy driving :hi:

I don't always agree with what you say (or, probably more like how you say it), however, you strike me as one who has a thought toward her future. So I won't go with the normal "don't do" platitudes...except for the one about driving and talking on your cell phone. I've been around the smartest, commonsensical adults who will routinely be tempted into breaking this one rule. Just don't do it. It's not worth messing up your future or that of another person's.

I was quite fortunate to have an awesome driver's ed teacher. She was quite laid back and made me feel very comfortable behind the wheel. I was also fortunate to miss the graduated license thing here in NJ. Had my permit 2 months after I turned 16 and full license at 17. Now they give out a restricted license at 17 and don't have full driving privileges until until you are 18. Consider yourself lucky up there
