A Chicago alderman is expected to help constituents with garbage pick-up or zoning issues. But now, 49th Ward Chicago Alderman Joe Moore can add crime fighter to his résumé.
Joan Carson does not live in the 49th Ward but she may reconsider now that she has a new hero in Moore.

Carson had her purse snatched Wednesday morning in front of the Heartland Café. The alderman had just finished breakfast when he heard a woman scream.

"I saw a guy running down the street carrying a purse," Moore said. "I knew it wasn't his because it didn't match his shoes."

ABC-7 in Chicago reports that Joe Moore helped chase down a purse snatcher this morning, at "10:27 am," according to "witness" Robert Potenza. (Channel 7 misspelled his last name as "Potenze.")

ABC-7's reporting on this was so sloppy that it must be taken with a shaker of salt.

Mr. Robert Potenza claims to be an eye witness to the event this morning. He is quoted in the ABC-7 story.

What ABC-7 reports and what Mr. Potenza told Rogers Park Bench do not jive.
