1. The list is mistaken
Marshall Islands are not a country. Nor is Micronesia.

8. We have a suzerainty relationship with them
The Compact of Free Association. Their currency is the U.S.$ We have a defense pact with both "nations". I should have added Palau to the list as well. Essentially they are part of the U.S.

11. No
essentially, they are not.

They are both sovereign nations. The Marshall Islands and Micronesia are both members of the UN.

14. So, according to your logic.
Membership U.N. = sovereign nation status

What about Palestine? Taiwan? I guess they are not countries under your definition.

It's still an independent country.

16. So do many Caribbean-area nations and colonies,

even if they have their own currency.

18. Hardly independent.
If they are tied to the United States for their currency. Monkeyfunk is correct, I'll cede that countries like FSM, Marshall Islands and Palau are sovereign entities, however they are hardly independent nations as they would never survive with out U.S. aid. And in the case of Marshall Islands, were they to try to exercise any sort true sovereignty, let's say trade talks or aid from China, the U.S. would nip that in the bud very quickly, as one of our most important military bases is located on Kwajalein.

24. The same was true of the Eastern Bloc countries while the Soviet Union was around
Obviously legally sovereign doesn't always mean truly sovereign. But it is enough to be legally independent and UN recognized.

6. you mean name AND spell
There were several that I had to skip when it wouldn't take my spelling also some that it just wouldn't take like azerbaijan and united kingdom .... also, I am not a very fast typist anyway. It would probably take me 25 minutes from the list!

9. My typing speed's slower than my geographic speed,

though I typo very well.

I missed 86.

And some of these were time wasters (as when I typed in "St Vincent and the Grenadines" when it should have been "Saint Vincent and the Grenadines" and I tried both "Zaire" and "Republic of the Congo" for what turns out to be "Democratic Republic of the Congo") and I spent most of the time worrying about the current name for Burma, that suddenly departed my memory banks. All the 'stan' nations, too, defeated me. I was never even too sure how many countries we ended up with in the Balkans and Central Asia, so I left them for last as wild guesses I never got to make. between those parts of the world and west Africa, I think we gained a country or two while I was taking the test, anyway.

At least I didn't forget Poland...

I did, however, somehow manage to skip Canada....

And I need to learn how to spell Colombia. I really wish they would use St. instead of Saint.

But I DID get Vanuatu! And I don't even watch Survivor.

22. I missed more than that
I'm just not fast enough today
and looking at some of the ones I missed, I'm not surprised I missed them.
Like, once I got Republic of the Congo, I didn't get Democratic Republic of the Congo. Big surprise.
