A 15-year-old girl is recovering at home after she was attacked by two pit bulls Tuesday in Southeast Portland and had to get 17 stitches.
It happened near SE 99th and Woodstock. Witnesses said the Sara Bales was bringing food to her friends in the apartment complex when the neighbor's dog, named Tyrus, jumped through a window and attacked, and then a second dog, a pit bull mix named Harley, jumped on her, too.
Watch KGW report Nathan Crawley said Tyrus belongs to his stepfather, Stephen and his wife Kimberly Van Rheen, and that it has a history of problems.
"He's bit me... I've got scars and all that's it on my side right here and right here," he said, pulling up his shirt and showing bite marks on his stomach. "I told my mom to get rid of it the first time."
Sara Bale's sister heard her cries for help and came running before authorities arrived.
The dogs had been secured in a neighbor’s yard by the time emergency crews arrived. They were taken away by Multnomah County Animal Control and put into quarantine for 10 days
Bale suffered bites to her chest and arms, but her injuries were not life-threatening and she was released from the hospital Tuesday night.
