New England DUers: York, ME or Narragansett, RI?

Ok, so someone in the family wants to send us away for a weekend to celebrate our upcoming wedding (mini honeymoon), and we're thinking possibly York or Narragansett. What do y'all think?

Or, any other ideas as far as somewhere nice and beachy around here?

1. I prefer York myself

I like to be a bit further away from civilization and York's nice. Great beach, some fun stuff to do. I love Maine.

3. Well, York is close to Portland, and our food kicks serious ass.

Plus Maine is much nicer than RI. Seriously.
We have great biking, great beaches, rocky shorelines, world class dining, world class fried food.
Our mountains (an hour inland) are great. Our lakes and rivers are much more swimable than stinky old RI's.
For crying out loud, our license plates state quite clearly that we *are* Vacationland!

As opposed to say Cape Elizabeth or something closer to Casco Bay? A lot of the really interesting stuff is in or by the bay. Highly recommended is taking the ferry out to the islands, say peaks island, and walking the shore or kayaking the bay out to the abandoned wwII or spanish war forts.
The beaches are good around Old Orchard.
Plus Old Orchard has that turn of the century kitch to it. Including a really weird pier:

You HAD to post a picture of OOB and mention the islands just to torture me, didn't ya?

Peaks has an inn near the wharf with killer views. I've never stayed there but the bar and restaurant are nice. I'm a big fan of the bay but the beaches are small so for a real beach lover the islands may be a disappointment.

And since bi_baby will read this, Chebeague Island has a decent inn too.

I've always wanted to go to Bah Hahbar. The pictures I've seen of Acadia National Park look awesome.

Short Sands is smaller and within walking distance to a few restaurants and shops. Outside of the summer it's a nice quiet spot. Long Sands is more beach town feeling. Cape Neddick is nice.
Once you start looking at Maine, throw Ogunquit and Kennebunkport into the mix too. They all have beaches and charm.

Growing up in RI and all...

Narragansett is very pretty. I've never been to York.

As a Rhodeislander, I'd go with york. Gansett is lovely, but not very remote or secluded.

If you want to be able to hit the beaches and the city within a half hour then go with RI, if you want to 'get away' go to maine.

York is much nicer.
