1. Hmm. I wouldn't publish an obit. But I would a memorials...

6. If the cat is locally famous, sure thing.
Some cats are real cat-about-town types who show up at meetings and other human hang outs. Their absence would be noticed and wondered about. Some are integral part of staff at many business and customers have ongoing relationships with them.

Face it, some business cats are more interesting to locals than some people. Many sure have more character and redeeming qualities than some biped types.

Standing upright and having thumbs should not be the criteria for an obit ;)
