2. Hope you like rednecks
and the shallowest lake in Northern California. (It may actually be the shallowest in all of California.) And don't go in the summer when the water level drops.

The photos were pretty nice, though.

3. You mean Methnecks doncha?
I thought it was deep ancient lake. And rednecks, well I grew up with 'em escaped and now have them in Slownoma County.

5. The methnecks and rednecks
seem to coexist. Shallow new lake. It's average depth (if I remember correctly) is 10 feet. Those photographs make it look like a paradise. It's not. There are some nice areas, and the upper end is very la de da, but generally speaking it's very low end.

7. Well, that's mean! Wonder why it's so shallow.
I'm thinking of Clear Lake which is the ancient lake, so what is this lake?

8. That's Clear Lake
"More about the park
Several thousand years ago, a landslide blocked natural drainage from a valley into the Russian River. The water rose until it found an outlet through Cache Creek into the Sacramento River to form Clear Lake, the largest natural lake entirely within California. Most of the water comes from runoff. Some comes from springs in Soda Bay."

http://www2.ftw.nrcs.usda.gov/osd/dat/C/CLEAR_LAKE.html
"DRAINAGE AND PERMEABILITY: Poorly drained; negligible to high runoff (if assumed concave runoff is always negigible); slow to very slow permeability. A water table is at depths of 4 to 10 feet in the late summer and in some areas is very near the surface during wet months of winter. Some areas are artificially drained."

I was off a bit on the 10' average. It's 27'

10. I would guess the shallowest lakes in Northern California
would be Honey Lake, Goose Lake, or Tule Lake. Not counting, of course, Owens Dry Lake. :(

4. Haven't been there in years
All I remember is being able to buy bait just about anywhere. Oh, and the catfish I caught twice. :D

One of the best things about Clear Lake is Konocti Harbor Resort. They get some good acts in the amphitheatre and they have suites that sleep up to 10. I've often thought it'd be a good place for a DU meet-up weekend.

Here's some of the bill for this summer:

06/15 "LOL" Comedy Weekend ~ Carlos Mencia
06/16 "LOL" Comedy Weekend ~ "Weird Al" Yankovic
07/06 Earth, Wind & Fire
07/27 Aerosmith
07/28 Bob Dylan
07/29 Heart

6. We used to go to Konocti when I was a kid.
My dad would get comped (he was in radio -- it was a promotional thing) and we'd get to stay there for free. Great memories!

12. My fiance is from Lake County. We go there at least 4 times a year
wine tasting and enjoying the beautiful area. It is just a 2 1/2 hours drive and it is worth every mile.
