Did "Bionic Woman" really call for a remake?
Saw this on yahoo this morning... seems odd they would do this show, but not the longer running $6 million man.

Fresh off a successful first season with "Heroes," NBC is going back to the well for another superhero serial—a remake of "The Bionic Woman." The announcement caused a frenzy in Search as queries soared on the new show (+362%) and its voluptouous star, Michelle Ryan (+1850%).

Ms. Ryan's not a household name, but if the show takes off, she will be. In fact, her name could very well become synonymous with "bosomy, bionic badass." Other superhuman searches crushing the Buzz included "michelle ryan pictures" and "michelle ryan bionic woman."

Fans of the '70s version of the "Bionic Woman" know the show was a spin-off of "The Six Million Dollar Man." The old Lee Majors show, still a fan favorite, jumped 109% in Search. Could this renewed interest in bionics portend a return to the air for the cyborg colonel? Perhaps. After all, networks have the technology, they have the capability to re-make the world's first bionic man...

OK, bosomy bionic badass sounds promising at least.

1. I don't know, but this picture from the show is pretty cool

Michelle Ryan's hot and is a decent actress. This could have possibilities.

3. I think on the original show
Edited on Fri May-18-07 07:27 AM by NewJeffCT
the bionic implants were inside the skin, so the person appeared normal on the outside.

I guess the medical tech has gone backwards in the last 30 years?

7. No, they were just enhanced prostheses, not implants
I'm guessing we're looking above at a pic of her prostheses before the artificial skin is put on.

21. Why is Hullywuss so superficial?
Lindsay Wagner had a natural beauty... and the original series was about a regular person saved with bionics.

Everything has to be so combed, prim, proper, polished. In a word: "perfection". The sad part is, most remakes are superficially superior - but the core plots lack imagination and are usually proped up with self-reflecting or absurd or ghastly jokes. (obviously I'm not a hard core fan of the remake/reboot of the famous "Doctor Who" series, and while the original BSG was campy and corny, the attempt to "dead serious" it in the remake poisons itself with too much topical blah. I don't mind referencing topical events, but what's being made is copycatting actual events and ending up pessimistic. I'm tired of that garbage. The new WHO is equally pessimistic and shoves the same topical garbage into what seems to be every single episode. It's trite, glossy, and an insult to one's IQ.)

Of course, everything's made with money - not creativity - in mind. That's why everything that was once popular is now being remade. Being propped up and ironically called "original".

And why must "The Prisoner" be remade too?

There's not been anything creative since "Futurama" or "Firefly"; the latter has "Blake's 7" as an influence but actually has more imagination and thought put into it than most shows. Which is one reason why it failed.

29. Agreed wholeheartedly
On everything you said.

I can't believe they're remaking "The Prisoner". There's just no way that can't suck.

2. No
It was a silly show from the 70's. Hardly worth remaking.

6. Being born in 1966
and the $6 million man being on in the mid 70s, I used to love that show when I was around that age.

19. I absolutely loved The Six Million Dollar Man
As well as the book it was based on, Cyborg by Martin Caidin.

I wish they would do a new SMDM in the same vein as the book and the first season of the show. It was all very serious and high-tech.

That's a PatGirl if I ever saw one. You know, kind of sweet and innocent appearance-wise, but also a bit, well, you know. ;)

What bothers me is that they cancelled a good show ("Crossing Jordan") for this crap.

15. Hmm...
Seems like it would be a crapfest.

But, I couldn't have imagined a remake of "Battlestar Galactica" that would have been any good before SciFi came up with it.

The photos of the casted lead have certainly aroused my.....interest.

16. Guess they're adding bionic bosoms this time around, too.
-- As Lindsay Wagner's front looked like her back when she did the original show (but that didn't take away at all from her attractiveness, I might add).

27. She wasn't THAT flat... and like I said before,
"natural beauty".

Keep in mind, this was the era where they wanted actresses to wear enhancements for "jiggle factor". Pam Dawber refused to do that in "Mork and Mindy", thank goodness. :) (that's another show that's oddly passed the test of time...)

20. My season 2 box set recently arrived - the original show ROCKS.
I preferred Jamie's exploits to Steve's; especially when he grew goofy hair, that awful mustache to match, and flared trousers (bellbottoms) every week.

"Deadly Ringer" (2 parts), "Doomsday is Tomorrow" (2 parts), "Kill Oscar" (3 parts), "The Vega Influence", "Jamie's Shield" (2 parts) are all classics. And those 5 are just part of season 2 (the best of the three seasons). (note some of the scene transition effects such as fades and wipes. 'Star Wars' (1977) uses the same sorts of scene transition effects... but came out rather later than TBW's season 2... )

24. Is "Doomsday Is Tomorrow" the one with the supercomputer...
that's all rigged up with booby traps, that Jamie has to defeat in order to save the world from nuclear holocaust?

I remember that was a thrilling episode, with a surprising kickass ending.

26. Yup, that's the one.
The voice of the computer was a bit iffy, but its logic was reasonable.

And, yeah, the ending was a terrific twist that still works today.
