OK, that is scary

I wanted to post a picture of this funny cat pictures site (http://files.kavefish.com/pictures/collections/funny_cat_pictures/_index-list.html). I copy and paste the URL and the moment I hit "post" I see this nasty pornographic image instead of a funny kitty!! The second time I tried it, I hit "preview" first and it showed the kitty. Then I hit "post" and it is this really graphic porn picture again.

3. I think that happened to another DUer a couple of days ago.

It seems to be something some sites' webmasters do to deter content/bandwidth theft. :shrug:

I downloaded a photo from that site to my hard drive and it looked OK when I opened it in Photoshop. :shrug: Maybe it only happens when you link directly. :shrug:

Sometimes if a picture is popular enough it can get really expensive (or get your hosting turned off) if enough people link to pictures you host. It is even worse with video and audio files. I came really close to getting a 900+ dollar bill from my hosting company one month due to people leaching my bandwidth.. Luckily I caught it in time and removed the files. If I wouldn't have shut it down in time I would have been screwed.

I agree that putting up nasty pics is not cool. But 75% of the problem is from myspace*. Most people that pay for hosting don't have much love for the myspace crowd.


* According to my log files when I have had problems with people linking to stuff.
