3. Ouch. That's my worst nightmare. Biggest worry WRT returning to the world of dating... |
|

Which I am supposed to be doing sometime soon...running into a covert Republican. Someone who is masquerading as a decent man who seems interesting enough, even if he is a tad quiet and shy about his political views. I can see it now...things appear to be going fine...the introductions, the small talk, the establishment of career, educational and relationship status all go smoothly. And then the appetizers arrive...
Me: "It's just, I've decided that being a progressive activist AND a sane person means committing to balance. Some volunteer work, but not enough that it compromises my mental health again, you know?"
Him: "Progressive...activist?"
Me: "Yeah. Eventually I had to embrace that title. It's important to take yourself seriously."
Him: "Uh, I voted for Bush."

I think that you'd probably get up right then and there and leave. Life's too short; right?!!! :)

4. Been there, done that! |
|
Me: Something about being a democrat and hating BushCo.
Him: Oh, yeah, I don't really like him.
Me: That's putting it mildly.
Him: Well, I mean, I voted for him. Both times. But now I kinda don't like him.
Me: You VOTED for HIM????? TWICE?!
Him: I said I don't really like him now.
Me: Well...that's something, I guess...
Him: But you know who I really like?
Me: Who?
Him: Condi Rice. Love her.
Me: Hey waiter, check please!

8. yes because he refused to let me pay for my dinner |
|
"I don't roll that way" he told me. My expectation on a first date is to pay my own way but when my date offers to pay I verify that they're sure and if they insist I think it's rude to challenge them on it. I'm secure enough in my femininity to not take it as an affront to my independence whereas many of them seem to take it as an affront to their masculinity when I offer to pay. What a complex dance it can be and it's only worse when the man is a conservative.

Edited on Sat May-19-07 09:52 AM by patricia92243
faced with "Do I want a Republic guy or not" - I didn't. But I got to thinking about it, and I believe I could be happy with a guy that just wasn't interested in politics at all.
??? What do you think of this?

I seem to be the only one in my family who cares, and that makes me crazy.

a Web site like DU is going to quickly politicize someone. I think I if someone wanted to stay with me otherwise just because they would want to know what the hell I was talking about.

15. That's true and also wouldn't you rather be with someone who cares? |
|
I wonder how anyone can be apathetic about it especially right now. With something that I'm this passionate about I want to be able to share that with the person I love. I still maintain that being a republican indicates a set of values different than my core beliefs and I can't be with someone like that. To be quite blunt, I wouldn't be able to respect their beliefs.
