3. I know they exist...I see them every time I watch an MGM movie.

If it's onscreen...ergo, they exist. At least in my worldview.

22. No, bobcats don't make good house pets.
No wildcat does. They may look really cute when they're just little cubs, but people forget they grow up.

26. Just for you - urban cats in Tucson area

When I lived by the racket club along the Rillito river I would see them early in the AM. Critters would come to drink where they poured out water from back flushing the pools. Saw a mountain lion there sucking up a drink one morning. Big cats might be closer than many think ;)

31. Pics from folks in Tucson area. The Arizona Daily Star has great slide shows online
There's lots of great things to get pictures of in the Tucson area. Lots of people get some fantastic wildlife shots just outside their doors. If one hikes just a bit, the opportunities for great pictures are abundant.

If you are ever in that area, check out the Arizona Sonoran Desert Musuem. Great ground, great critters, great gardens. Check it out: http://www.desertmuseum.org/

Start an online pictorial tour: google it then hit images

20. Cougars and Bobcats:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobcat

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cougar

Bobcats weigh in at up to 30 pounds, cougars at up to 120. Still, I'm sure a bobcat could do some serious damage if you tried to tangle with it.

12. No.
Cougars are often called pumas. But bobcats are smaller, with shaggier fur, short tails, and tufted ears.

29. Then, there are big footed, well furred, not real large cats in high country
The lynx is one of my favorites.

Puuurrrrrrty cat but I have yet to have the luck of seeing one of those in the wild. I don't get that far out anymore, so I doubt I will ever have the chance.

Have seen several cougars and bobcats in the wild. Either one will make you mighty respectful ;) but I think I would really hate tangling with the smaller of the two.

The lions just generally vanish if you spot them. Only been half-heartedly stalked by one once, up in the White Mountains of AZ. Looked across a high, remote pasture where some steers were corralled waiting for their fall truck ride down out of the mountains. Saw a golden 'bush' across the medow. Hmm, that damned bush is moving... OK, kids, we are WALKING back to camp site and I am taking up the rear. Everybody SING!

Shoulda listened to my friend who asked if I wanted to carry a shotgun for that walk. It was a tad nerve racking trying to work out all possible ways of protecting 4 city kids from a lion who might want some manwhich instead of sirloin. ;) On my own, I am never afraid of the big cat. Respectful and never foolish, but not afraid.

9. Panther.
But they are simply black leopards. I don't know if black jaguars exist or not; I'll have to look. Anyway, my younger cat looks just like a miniature panther. Her name is Brigid, and she graciously allows me to use it online.

23. Both

Jaguars and leopards both have melanistic forms. I think the color's actually dark brown, and if you look closely under direct light you can see the normal spotted and blotched markings...looks black under most light conditions, and certainly where you'd be likely to see them in the wild.
