I enjoyed it. I think the concensus among my teenaged daughters and me was that it wasn't quite as good as 2, which wasn't quite as good as 1, but that it was still very good. It had several laugh-out-loud moments.

Shrek the Third begins with the serious illness of Fiona's father. For some reason, the heir to the thrown is Shrek and not Fiona. (The movie glosses over her in this regard, without explanation). Shrek doesn't want to be king, so he goes off to look for Fiona's bland cousin Artie (voice of Justin Timberlake). That kid has the charisma of a tube sock.
The problem with Shrek 3 is that it simply goes through the motions, placing plot before characterization. Things just happen. There are some moments of amusement, but there is a also something missing.

6. The humor, pop culture references, and amusing villain were just not there. |

7. Nothing like the first two installments (Spoilers, I suppose) |
|
I cracked up a few times, which is way more than most of today's "comedies"
Ye Olde Bootery was pretty funny, some of the "Worcestershire" high school bits were amusing in a cultural reference way.
Prince Charming was just an annoying little shit, not really a villain. None of the "good guys" was really ever threatened seriously.

it was really good! definitely a good movie for both kids and those of us with more mature senses of humour, lol. i enjoyed it and the little ones laughed so hard that it definitely made the ticket costs worth it.
it gets thumbs up from me!

But still good for some laughs - after all, it's meant to be fun, not deep. :-)
Watch out for the Gingerbread Man's reaction when he is threatened at swordpoint, and the exchange between Donkey and Puss-N-Boots concerning 'grooming' - that exchange was one of the best lines in the entire trilogy.
And Shrek's dream sequence near the beginning was wonderfully surreal and funny. :D
